Job summary

Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Band 7 Fire Safety Advisor to deliver a comprehensive fire safety service across all Trust properties, including hospitals and community sites. The role requires independent working, strong communication with clinical and non-clinical teams, and robust knowledge of fire safety legislation.

You will lead on risk assessments, drills, and training, producing clear records and reports for the Head of Estate Development and Health & Safety Committee.

Qualifications

• Fire safety experience (5 years) in healthcare or large organisations.
• Fire safety qualifications and ongoing CPD is required.
• Knowledge of regulatory frameworks (HTMs/Fire Safety Order/HBNs/Building Regs) and NHS fire safety guidance.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with all regulatory provisions regarding fire safety in Trust properties.
• Conduct fire risk assessments in occupied premises following HTM/Firecode/Regulatory Reform standards.
• Undertake complex hospital fire risk assessments and plan evacuations.
• Maintain local and ward-level fire safety plans and staff briefings.
• Carry out regular fire drills and ensure staff preparedness across all sites.
• Maintain electronic records of risk assessments, drills and training; produce reports for management.
• Analyse fire safety statistics and contribute to annual reporting to the Head of Safety.
• Investigate fire incidents and monitor trends to drive improvements.
• Provide fire safety training using varied methods including e-learning, Teams and in-person sessions.
• Liaise with staff and external partners, including Fire & Rescue Service, to improve fire safety.
