The role of Senior Fire Risk Assessor / Validator will support our increasing commissions to undertake Fire Risk Assessments, Passive Fire Surveys, Fire Door Surveys and validation of reports / data.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Line Manager:Director

Date:April 2025

Primary Function

To primarily undertake a full range of fire risk assessments, passive fire surveys and fire door inspections, together with checking / validating reports and data produced by Fire Risk Assessors, for a range of clients, individually and as part of a wider team.In addition to this the candidate will provide support to the Lead Fire Risk Assessor to assist in the management of fire safety contracts. Representing Storm Tempest in a professional client focussed manner ensuring that projects are consistently delivered efficiently and effectively, maintaining and developing client relationships.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

1.Undertake a full range of Fire Risk Assessments.

2.Undertake Passive Fire Surveys.

4.Produce reports based upon survey finding and specifying remedial action and works.

5.Provide specialist, technical advice and support in line with The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, and current fire safety legislation.

6.Undertaking desk top validation / checking of reports produced by Assessors and on site validation activities to provide relevant feedback as part of a Quality Management System in accordance with BAFE SP205 requirements.

7.Provide support to the ‘Quality Management System’ process where relevant to the fire safety department.

8.Ensure projects are completed on budget and to schedule.

9.As Senior Fire Risk Assessor / Validator you will be required to provide support and guidance to the Fire Safety Team and act as a mentor to junior members of the team.

10.Advise clients on building / property issues including technical, financial, contractual, legal / statutory compliance, environmental and Building Regulations.

11.Provide advice and guidance to our Clients and colleagues on general fire safety compliance matters.

12.Prepare reports and other documentation as required.

13.Critically analyse reports and provide constructive feedback and guidance to fire risk assessors.

14.Manage projects and / or contracts, provide performance information and be the first point of contact for our clients.

15.Answer telephone calls appropriately and take responsibility for the call to ensure enquiries are dealt with effectively.

16.To undertake research as required including summarising and preparing reports for Directors.

17.Maintaining and updating projects, including workflow and invoice preparation.

18.To assist and prepare new work bid, tender applications and contract documents.

19.To ensure professional practice is carried out to the highest standards.

20.Deliver in-house seminars, learning sessions for the fire risk team and CDM, building surveying and project management teams.

Other Duties

21.Attend training courses and seminars as directed.

22.Monitoring continuous professional development of the Fire Risk Assessors.

23.Comply with, monitor and contribute to maintaining the company’s Quality Assurance standards.

26.To undertake any other duties commensurate with the post, in various locations which may include overnight stays away from home as required to service projects.

Skills & Experience

Qualifications

§Completion of nationally recognised and accredited Fire Risk Assessment training courses to a minimum Level 4

§Member of the Institute of Fire Engineers (IFE) / Institute of Fire Safety Managers (IFSM) or other equivalent

§Degree level qualification in Fire Engineering, Health & Safety or Built Environment surveying discipline

§HNC or equivalent in a Health & Safety or Built Environment Subject or;

§Completion of nationally recognised and accredited Fire Risk Assessment training courses to a minimum Level 5

Experience

§Minimum of five years’ experience as a Fire Risk Assessor

§Established track record of undertaking fire risk assessments, together with the ability to produce reports that provide clear and achievable recommendations

§Experience in assessing others and their work validating fire risk assessments

§Sound knowledge of the Fire Safety Act 2021

§Knowledge of fire compartmentation surveys

§Knowledge of fire door inspections

§Supporting and mentoring other fire safety professionals within the team

§Sound project management skills

§Contract management and Administration experience

§Experience in working for Public Sector Clients

Special Knowledge

§The scope of The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, Fire Safety Act, Building Safety Act and any other relevant legislation and obligations and responsibilities under them

§Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of the principles and practices of Management of Fire Safety

§IT literate with strong MS Office skills

§Sound working knowledge of Regulations, Legislation, British Standards and Codes of Practice relating to life fire safety risk assessment

§Demonstrable knowledge to objectively validate fire risk assessments

§Ability to maintain robust validation records

§Analytical skills to research, review, summarise and prepare reports

§Produce fire safety risk assessment documentation in an agreed format and to business policies

§Ability to understand and manipulate numerical data

§Appreciate the concept of risk assessment as it applies to fire

§Be able to apply technical knowledge that is compliant with standards, regulations and guidance, relevant to life fire safety

§Working knowledge and application of BAFE SP205 scheme requirements
