Role Overview:

We're looking for a Senior FinOps Analyst experienced in cloud cost management, particularly across AWS, Databricks and Datadog. This is a new role for Depop, and one which we see as crucial for optimising our cloud spend, driving strategic cost-saving initiatives, and providing actionable insights across our cloud services.

Operating in a fast-paced and agile environment, this role supports the Engineering teams, working closely with Finance to enable the business to achieve strategic growth and significant cost savings. Reporting directly to the CTO with a dotted line into our Lead Vendor Manager, you'll work directly with Engineering while also collaborating closely with Legal, Finance, and our parent company, Etsy. Your insights and recommendations will be instrumental in aligning cloud usage with business objectives and financial forecasts.

Key Responsibilities:

Cloud Spend Strategy & Analysis:

  • Develop and maintain accessible dashboards and reports, ensuring transparency of spend.
  • Monitor, analyse, and report cloud expenses for primary vendors as well as a number of our other key service providers like Cloudflare & Tecton, collaborating with Engineering and Machine Learning teams to forecast and align future usage with platform developments.
  • Identify optimisation opportunities through analysis of cloud usage patterns, industry trends, pricing models, and purchasing options.
  • Forecast and lead cloud budgets
  • Define, track, and communicate critical metrics to measure efficiency of cloud spend optimisation efforts.
  • Regularly prepare and present clear cloud spend analyses to senior technical and financial partners.
Operational Management & Collaboration:

  • Apply your expertise in cloud billing models, tools, and configurations to deliver actionable recommendations on cost savings directly to Engineering Managers and leadership.
  • Act as the central point of contact facilitating effective communication across Engineering, Product, Finance, and Etsy.
  • Engage cloud service providers to negotiate driven pricing and contracts.
  • Collaborate across Depop to supervise dependencies, timelines, and mitigate risks related to cloud spend.
  • Work closely with the Vendor Management team to ensure timely processing of cloud purchase orders and payments.
  • Maintain compliance with cloud vendor agreements, contractual terms, and internal financial policies.
Cloud Spend Enablement:

  • Stay abreast of the latest practices, industry trends, and compliance requirements, driving a culture of financial accountability and efficient cloud usage.
  • Communicate standard processes around cloud spend management, budgeting, and forecasting to all relevant and interested partners
  • Develop training materials and mentorship to nurture cost awareness and encourage responsible cloud usage.
Requirements:

  • Proven experience in this area: Previously undertaken roles as a FinOps Analyst or in a similar, with a focus on cloud cost management.
  • Hands-on cloud expertise and strong technical literacy: A strong and applied understanding of cloud services and infrastructure, including AWS, Databricks and Datadog
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills: business driven attitude and user focused approach to identify and tackle problems
  • Teamwork, interpersonal and communication skills: Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Financial leadership skills: Knowledge of financial management principles and experience in financial analysis, modeling, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Data analysis and visualisation skills: Proficiency in data analysis techniques, including data visualisation and statistical analysis.
  • Organised, agile and pragmatic: Ability to operate in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment and lead multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Experience with FinOps practices and compliance: Experience implementing and maintaining FinOps practices and methodologies, including knowledge of cost optimisation frameworks and relevant industry regulations and compliance needs
Nice to have:

  • Familiarity with cloud cost optimisation tools
  • Experience with SQL, Python, and data analysis tools
  • Experience in strategic financial planning and analysis
