Job summary

Nomad Foods is seeking a Controller to lead end-to-end accounting and reporting for a €1Bn cluster across multiple markets. You will own statutory and management accounting, P&L, balance sheet, and internal controls, ensuring accuracy and deadlines.

You will collaborate with Cluster FDs, plant finance partners, and the SFC leadership, driving process improvements and strong governance in a fast-paced FMCG environment.

Qualifications

• Qualified accountant with at least 5 years’ PQE.
• Experience leading a relatively large team of accountants and managing 3rd party providers.
• Strong IFRS knowledge and practical application.
• Hands-on yet able to delegate and supervise others.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience with statutory reporting and internal controls.

Responsibilities

• Be the Controller and main point contact for Cluster FD with understanding of key financial reports.
• Lead statutory and management accounting and reporting process across markets.
• Ensure timely reporting for monthly, quarterly and annual cycles.
• Own end-to-end record-to-report for the markets.
• Work with external auditors to ensure a smooth audit process.
• Develop and document accounting policies to strengthen internal controls.
• Oversee inter-company relationships and financing agreements.
• Lead projects to drive process change and efficiencies in Shared Finance Centre.

Overview

Nomad Foods was formed in 2015 and with revenues of €2.9bn is the largest frozen food company in Europe. Nomad owns a portfolio of leading brands including Birds Eye, Findus and iglo, supplemented in 2018 with the purchase of Goodfellas Pizza and Aunt Bessie’s, and in 2021 with the purchase of Ledo and Frikom.

We manufacture and distribute a range of branded frozen food products across 22 European countries with the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, Sweden and France representing our five largest markets.

The long-term goal of Nomad is to develop a global portfolio of best-in-class food brands by growing organically and through strategic M&A.

The role will play a key role in providing leadership within the R2R team and the wider SFC and will support the ambitious growth trajectory for the business. The role is accountable for the end-to-end accounting and controls for market legal & management entities and will ensure critical reporting and control performance is completed correctly and to deadlines

The candidate will work closely with the Cluster FD’s, Plant Business Partners, Head of Financial Accounting and other senior stakeholders across the business as a key member of the SFC Finance leadership team, providing technical insight, controls, accounting support and leadership.

Responsibilities

• Be the Controller & main point contact for Cluster FD with complete understanding of the key financial reports BS, PnL & CF statements for a €1Bn Cluster in the Nomad portfolio
• Lead the Statutory & Management accounting and reporting process across market(s)
• Advanced technical knowledge of IFRS and practical application
• Manage stakeholder relationships across finance and the business
• Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting
• Ownership of the end-to-end record to report cycle for the market(s)
• Ensure compliance with monthly, quarterly and annual reporting deliverables and controls are completed for all legal entities in the region.
• Working with Outsource Service Providers, ensure accurate, timely reporting for local statutory accounts, Corporation Tax and VAT returns for their respective entities
• Responsible for the end-to-end record to reporting cycles for their Cluster/sEnsure accurate and complete financial reporting, especially Balance Sheet, including entity level controls and balance sheet reconciliations
• Working closely with the group's auditors to ensure a smooth audit process, owning the process for the Cluster
• Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
• Accountability for internal governance and SOX controls, ensuring key controls are evidenced and operating effectively
• Supervise, lead, motivate and develop Financial Controllers and Assistant Controllers ensuring delivery of their activities in an accurate and timely manners.
• Responsible for inter-company relationships and financing agreements.
• Lead on projects within the Shared Finance Centre to provide operational / systematic / process change and efficiencies
• Identify opportunities for process improvement and demonstrate leadership within the finance function whilst embracing a culture of continuous improvement
• Building a strong R2R team with multiple reports to support the businesses’ s growth ambitions
• Providing key technical insight and support to the wider finance community
• Overall ownership of the relationship with external and internal auditors for specified market(s)

Qualifications

Essential

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with at least 5 years’ PQE
• Experience in leading a relatively large team of accountants and managing 3rd party accounting providers
• Track record of driving continuous improvement of entity accounting, close and reporting related systems and processes
• Financial and tax reporting experience
• Audit or experience in an accounting function with good knowledge of statutory reporting and controls
• Ability to have a hands-on approach but also have experience to delegate as required and supervise the work of others
• Computer skills including the ability to operate computerized accounting, spreadsheet (Excel), and email (Outlook) at an advanced level
• Ability to work in a changing environment, proactively responding to changing requirements
• Ability to work with the team and independently, self- starter with ability to bring other, non-financial, teams along a journey
• Excellent risk assessment and prioritisation skills
• Highly analytical and numerate with an attention to detail as well as the ability to see the bigger picture
• Strong communications skills (verbal, written and presentational) and excellent soft skills to influence or challenge senior stakeholders
