Job Title: Senior Finance Officer
Salary/Grade: 32,000
Location: L18
Contract Type: Full-Time, Temporary to Permanent
Reports To: Director of Finance
Start Date: As soon as possible

About the school:
The school is a vibrant and inclusive school, educating children aged 4 to 18 in the heart of South Liverpool. The school is committed to excellence in education and the highest standards in all aspects of school life.

Role Summary:
We are seeking a proactive and experienced Senior Finance Officer to support the Director of Finance in the day-to-day financial management of the College. This pivotal role will ensure compliance with financial regulations, support audit requirements, and manage key financial operations including payroll, budget monitoring, and monthly reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

Finance Duties:

  • Supervise the finance team to ensure efficient financial operations

  • Oversee the month-end process and produce monthly management accounts

  • Manage reconciliations, accruals, deferred income, and fixed asset register

  • Monitor departmental budgets and support preparation of a 3-year financial plan

  • Lead on VAT recording and statutory returns

  • Assist in preparing year-end accounts and liaising with external auditors

  • Coordinate with boarding and enterprise teams for invoicing and financial management

  • Ensure income is received, debts recovered, and funding opportunities pursued

  • Contribute to external returns to the ESFA, HMRC, and Companies House

  • Maintain and improve finance systems to support compliance and efficiency

General Duties:

  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to GDPR and safeguarding regulations

  • Attend relevant training and CPD as needed

  • Follow all College health & safety and operational policies

  • Undertake additional duties as directed by the Principal or Director of Finance

  • Confident with preparing reports, handling audits, and working with multiple stakeholders
