Overview

Senior Finance Manager to join the Financial Reporting team on a 12 month secondment basis. The team delivers statutory and regulatory reporting to a high standard, ensures compliance with regulations and accounting standards, develops accounting policies, provides specialist technical accounting advice, and manages the relationship with external auditors. The team is responsible for technical accounting, IFRS 9 reporting and Treasury Finance. The team comprises individuals with a wide range of experiences, building processes and capability to meet current and future requirements. We are looking for high calibre individuals to join and grow the team.

As a Senior Finance Manager, you will set a compelling vision and direction, develop solutions, and deliver high-quality reporting. You will lead a team that collaborates across Finance and with the wider business to ensure processes and outputs reflect best practice and promote efficiency and controls. You will manage and influence a wide range of stakeholders as you embed new reporting requirements and enhance current processes.

Nationwide offers hybrid working where possible, with a mix of office and home working. Details on hybrid working will be provided by the hiring manager. If you are based in London, travel to Swindon will be essential.

What you'll be doing

You will demonstrate strong leadership in a fast-paced environment with multiple stakeholders and priorities. You will communicate regularly with colleagues to ensure information is delivered in a controlled and timely manner. You will manage stakeholders from diverse backgrounds at all levels, fostering collaboration across multiple workstreams and balancing competing accountabilities.

You will work closely with peers and senior leaders within the Financial Reporting team to articulate the team's vision and ensure requirements are understood across the organisation. The role may include the following responsibilities:

  • Manage and develop processes for the efficient delivery of Nationwide's group and subsidiary financial reporting, ensuring compliance with internal and external requirements and timelines.
  • Implement and manage control and governance processes to ensure high-quality reporting that is appropriately reviewed and approved.
  • Identify, evaluate and drive opportunities to improve key processes to deliver quality and efficiency benefits, prioritising resources to maximise impact.
  • Lead, develop and motivate a team of finance professionals to create a high performing team.
  • Demonstrate agility and decision making when assessing and implementing changing reporting requirements and provide solutions to evolving business activities.
  • Contribute to wider departmental management and leadership activities and initiatives.
  • Support technical accounting and reporting developments.
  • Collaborate with the internal team and external auditors to support successful half year and full year reporting.
About you

At a minimum you will:

  • Be a qualified accountant
  • Have a strong background in financial reporting under IFRS, with experience in audit practice or in a large corporate environment, preferably within financial services.
  • Focus on delivery and demonstrate ability to overcome obstacles and deliver commitments.
  • Demonstrate excellent team leadership and organisational skills to manage multiple activities and high volumes of reporting to strict timelines.
  • Have strong analytical and problem-solving skills to understand and manage complex accounting and reporting activities.
  • Deliver high-quality outputs and maintain oversight of team outputs with appropriate review processes to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Demonstrate highly effective stakeholder management across all levels and collaborate across the wider business.
  • Demonstrate clear and effective communication and influencing skills
  • Show strong team leadership and coaching to motivate and develop the team
