Job summary

NTT DATA UK & Ireland is seeking a DC Project Lead Engineer to manage on-site delivery of data centre deployments and service engagements. You will lead a small engineering team, liaise with clients and carriers, and ensure zero SLA misses through structured procedures and rigorous quality control.

You will install, test and decommission data centre equipment, oversee cabling work, and mentor junior engineers while maintaining safe, compliant practices. London proximity is important.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Lead a site installation team for DC operations and field service engagements.

• Install and test cabling between devices, fibre and copper; terminate RJ45s.
• Ensure infrastructure is configured, installed and tested per client requirements.
• Liaise with client, carriers and colleagues to expedite delivery and diagnose issues.
• Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and training to junior team members.
• Uphold quality standards and share updated SOPs; conduct toolbox talks and site briefings.
• Monitor progress and ensure work meets quality standards.
• Update incidents/engagements with progress and resolution details.
• Follow handover procedures for shift changes to maintain service continuity.

Job description

The DC Project Lead Engineer role presents an opportunity for an experienced field engineer to take on the responsibility of the provision of onsite technical delivery and field engineering services to clients.

The role combines hands‑on technical delivery work with client‑facing engagement leadership responsibilities. The delivery objective of this role is to ensure all project requests, process events and project deliverables result in zero missed Service Level Agreement (SLA) conditions, This role delivers build services to clients by managing customer requirements through to a pre‑determined effective resolution.

The lead element of this role is to provide NTT’s clients with a primary point of contact for DC operations installation and service engagements that are serviced by a small flexible team of engineering resources.

What you’ll be doing:

• Lead a site installation team for DC operations and field service engagements as the client’s primary point of contact for on‑site delivery, ensuring high‑quality to exacting standards of delivery.
• Undertake installation and decommission of network, server, storage, and telecommunications equipment within data centres, adhering to structured methods of procedure.
• Provide installation and testing services of cabling between devices at customer data centre sites, both fibre and copper - testing and installing pre‑terminated fibre and terminating RJ45 cables between devices, utilising existing structured cable infrastructure of tray work or trunking where necessary.
• Ensure that the assigned infrastructure at the client site is configured, installed, tested as per operational solution according to client requirements.
• Liaise with all stakeholders including client, carriers and colleagues to expediate delivery and diagnosis of issues to identify resolutions.
• Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and training to more junior members of the team
• Be responsible to the quality and standard of delivery from the whole team by ensuring the latest standards and MOPS are shared and adhered to, conducting training sessions such as toolbox talks and site briefings, ensuring correct use of PPE and safe working practices are followed
• Monitor project/engagement progress and ensure work is completed to quality standard
• Ensure incidents and engagements are updated with progress and resolution details in a timely manner using the required platform.
• Follows the required handover procedures for shift changes to ensure service continuity

What experience you’ll bring:

• Substantial experience in technical support to clients.
• Solid experience in managing staff to achieving “right first time” deployments
• Demonstrable knowledge and experience of Data Cabling infrastructure, installation, standards and testing.
• Proven understanding and experience of Network routing and switching.
• Entry level experience providing remote support in Collaboration technologies.

Academic / Vendor Qualifications and Certifications

• Relevant City and Guilds qualifications in data cabling and testing for Fibre and Copper.
• Associate level certification in data centre technologies such as Cisco, Dell, or NetApp.
• Associate level certification in other networking technologies such as Juniper, Aruba, F5

Note – There is a requirement to ensure customer SLOs are met which may involve out of hours working depending on circumstances.
