Job description
Overview

The appointment will be a Trust Appointment designated as Clinical Fellow for a period of 6 months and subject to a successful appraisal will be renewable for a further 6 months. The successful candidate will participate closely in all activities within the Directorate of Cardiothoracic Surgery and be directly accountable to the consultant staff.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in the pre-, intra- and post-operative management of patients under consultant supervision.
  • Assist in theatre with consultant-supervised operative training appropriate to level of experience.
  • Provide assistance to both consultant anaesthetists and surgeons in the post-operative management of patients.
  • Participate in the pre- and post-operative management of patients on the wards under the direction of the appropriate Consultant Surgeon.
  • Participate in the academic program, assisting with presentations within the division and contributing to training initiatives across the division. Time will be allowed to pursue individual research or training initiatives.
  • Undertake audit and service evaluation projects as part of the role.
Working for our organisation

The successful candidate will participate in the same rota as the eight other higher surgical trainees (national and non-national) and will have similar training opportunities. The unit undertakes over 1100 cardiac operations and more than 700 thoracic operations per year, specialising in minimally invasive cardiac and thoracic surgery, including robotic-assisted procedures.

It is the policy of South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust that all successful candidates who are new to the Trust and require DBS clearance for the post offered are required to pay the cost of their DBS. The payment method is via salary deduction from the first month’s pay.
