Job description

Job Specification: Senior Power BI / Microsoft Fabric Developer

Job Title: Senior Power BI / Microsoft Fabric Developer Employment Type: Permanent, Full-time Location: Fully Remote (UK-based) Salary: Up to £65,000 per annum

The Role

We are looking for an experienced Power BI Developer with strong Microsoft Fabric experience to join our team on a permanent, fully remote basis.

Following a review of the skills required for the role, our focus is on finding a strong Power BI professional who has hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric and is comfortable working across modern data and reporting solutions.

This is a senior, hands-on role for someone who can take ownership of Power BI development, support the ongoing development of our Microsoft Fabric environment, and work closely with stakeholders to deliver high-quality reporting and data solutions.

Whilst experience in data warehousing would be highly desirable, it is no longer considered essential. We recognise that finding someone with deep experience across Power BI, Microsoft Fabric and traditional data warehousing can be a very specialist combination, so we are prioritising the core Power BI and Fabric skillset.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain high-quality Power BI reports and dashboards.
  • Build and maintain Power BI semantic models and datasets.
  • Work with business stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into effective reporting solutions.
  • Develop and optimise DAX calculations, Power Query transformations and data models.
  • Support the development and use of Microsoft Fabric across the organisation.
  • Work with Fabric technologies, such as Lakehouse, Data Factory, Pipelines, Warehouse and related services where appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain data pipelines and transformations.
  • Ensure reporting solutions are reliable, performant and easy to maintain.
  • Monitor and improve the performance of Power BI reports, datasets and Fabric solutions.
  • Support data quality, governance and security best practices.
  • Provide technical guidance and best practice around Power BI and Microsoft Fabric.
  • Work collaboratively with technical teams and non-technical stakeholders in a fully remote environment.
  • Document reporting solutions, data models and development processes.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong commercial experience as a Power BI Developer, BI Developer or similar role.
  • Excellent hands-on experience with Power BI.
  • Strong experience with:
    • Power BI reporting and dashboard development
    • Data modelling
    • DAX
    • Power Query
    • Semantic models/datasets
    • Performance optimisation
  • Commercial experience with Microsoft Fabric.
  • Experience working with modern cloud-based data platforms.
  • Good understanding of data integration and transformation.
  • Strong SQL skills.
  • Experience working with stakeholders to understand and deliver reporting requirements.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a fully remote environment.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience with data warehousing and dimensional modelling.
  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric technologies, including Lakehouse, Warehouse, Data Factory and Pipelines.
  • Experience designing ETL/ELT processes.
  • Azure data platform experience.
  • Experience with Python or other data-focused programming languages.
  • Experience with Git, version control and CI/CD.
  • Knowledge of data governance, security and data quality.
  • Microsoft Power BI, Fabric or Azure certifications.

What We Offer

  • Salary up to £65,000 per annum
  • Permanent, full-time role
  • Fully remote working
  • Opportunity to work extensively with Microsoft Fabric and modern Microsoft data technologies
  • A senior, hands-on role with genuine ownership and influence
  • Professional development and opportunities to expand technical skills

Candidate Profile

We are looking for a strong, experienced Power BI Developer who has embraced Microsoft Fabric and is excited about working with modern data technologies.

The ideal candidate will be highly capable in Power BI and have meaningful, practical experience of Microsoft Fabric. Whilst a background in data warehousing would be a significant advantage, we are more interested in finding someone with the right core Power BI and Fabric expertise than someone who necessarily has experience across every aspect of the traditional data engineering stack.

This role is UK ONLY, please also note that the client unfortunately does not offer sponsorship.
