Job summary

Northumbrian Water Group is seeking a Senior Estimator to lead a team of cost and estimating professionals and ensure robust estimates across project lifecycles. You will own cost preparation, control models and provide clear cost information to stakeholders.

We are building a dedicated PR29 team to deliver value for customers and communities. The role is hybrid, based at Pity Me, Durham, with a 2-year fixed term contract or secondment and a salary range of £53,550 to £63,000, depending on

Qualifications

• Proven track record in Quantity Surveying or civil/ME engineering.
• Experience with estimating processes, cost planning and control.
• Ability to interpret drawings and specifications.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of cost and estimating professionals.
• Ensure robust estimates across project lifecycle stages.
• Own cost preparation, control models and stakeholder cost communications.
• Oversee cost planning, estimating and control with department lead.
• Provide CAPEX, OPEX and NPV estimates at key project stages.
• Support five-year regulatory plan submissions as needed.
• Mentor the estimating team and train users on the in-house system.

Senior Estimator

We are building a dedicated team to create our PR29 business plan, which will set out what we will deliver for customers and the environment, and the investment needed to achieve it, between 2030 and 2035. About The Role

We have a new opportunity for a Senior Estimator, who will lead a team of experienced cost and estimating professionals and be responsible for ensuring robust estimates are produced for various stages of the project lifecycle, cost reconciliations are undertaken to understand cost variances and data is communicated clearly to stakeholders.

In this role, you will collaborate with the departmental lead in overseeing the delivery of best practice project and programme cost planning, estimating and control.

You will take a lead role in the ownership of cost preparation control models and associated guidelines for meeting forums, purpose, attendees and materials, ensuring consistency across the delivery programme which is essential to realising our National Leader ambitions.

You will assist in the scoping and cost comparison of solutions on pre-feasibility estimate requests and provide CAPEX, OPEX and NPV cost estimates for projects at key stages of the project lifecycle. You will also support in the delivery of estimates for the five year regulatory business plan submission, as part of Ofwat's Price Review process.

You will work alongside the Cost & Estimating Lead in the mentoring, development and performance management of the wider Estimating team. You will be a system expert providing advice and support as well as training internal and external users on the in-house estimating system.

About You

If you have extensive knowledge of estimating processes, procedures & tools, including construction bills of quantities (e.g. CESMM) and work breakdown structures, we would love to hear from you!

You will have a proven track record in Quantity Surveying, Civil, M&E Engineering or equivalent, and can accurately interpret scopes of work, engineering drawings and specifications. You will understand water industry processes and engineering design terminology.

You have people management skills and a collaborative approach to team leadership, with a clear commitment to continuous improvement. You have good verbal and written communication skills and can exchange information clearly and concisely while tailoring the approach to meet requirements.
