A leading company seeks a Senior Estimator for its Major Projects team in London, responsible for developing price estimates and mentoring junior staff. You will work closely with stakeholders to deliver high-quality bids for complex infrastructure projects. Join our Major Projects team as a Senior Estimator initially working within Highways.
Role Purpose
Supporting the Managing Estimator to develop estimates from 1st Principles associated across multiple stages of the pricing process including post tender stage pricing.
Be a senior member of the team developing the price, mentoring, and supporting junior members of the estimating team.
Stakeholder management to produce the Estimate e.g., planning, procurement, sustainability etc
Where appropriate working closely with other Balfour Beatty or JV partners, the delivery teams to ensure a unified approach and pricing submission.
What you'll be doing
As a Senior Estimator, you will have the following accountabilities:
Undertake estimates in accordance with the companies' policies and procedures.
Review customer's drawings and specifications to prepare accurate costing sheets for materials, labour and equipment.
Oversee and/or interrogate design options and value' solutions, and if appropriate, identify the attractiveness of a project based on sound estimating principles.
Mentor and support more junior members of the team.
Record assumptions and identify risks and opportunities including supporting developing the risk evaluation from a pricing/budgetary point of view.
Liaise with members of the project team, other BB business units & supply chain to develop and understand methodologies and principles proposed.
Who we're looking for
Civil Engineering Main Contractor background ideally mainly experienced in the Highways and/or Heavy Civil Engineering market on complex projects.
Experience in Complex Reinforced Concrete or Integrated Structures is desirable.
Previous experience in Estimating of Complex multi-faceted Highways and Civil Engineering Projects
Chartered by relevant industry recognised chartership e.g., ICE, CICES, RICS, CIOB Etc (desirable).
Proficient in the use of excel and similar software.
Experienced estimating background using Candy Estimating Software (desirable).
A valid CSCS card.
Working knowledge of best practice solutions and optimisation of innovative ideas and an understanding of the principles of Lean Construction and 5D cost planning is desirable.
An understanding of BIM and how to read and assemble BIM models and produce appropriate reports from them is desirable.
Good working knowledge of pricing and quantification methods including but not limited to Methos of Measurement for Highways is required.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required, coupled with an ability to form effective relationships with partners under time pressure.
