Job Description

A leading civil engineering contractor is looking to appoint a highly experienced Senior Estimator to lead pricing activity for its growing Infrastructure division. This is a pivotal role within an emerging team that is already securing work from Tier 1 clients including Taylor Woodrow, Bam Nuttall, and others.

As Senior Estimator, you’ll take ownership of key tenders, oversee a small estimating team, and be responsible for presenting detailed proposals to senior stakeholders. This is an office-based role in Horley, offering stability, autonomy, and the opportunity to shape a high-potential business unit.

About the Role of Senior Estimator

This position is ideal for a seasoned Senior Estimator with deep roots in civil infrastructure, who thrives in a leadership capacity. You will coordinate the tendering process from initial review through to submission, contributing commercial insight and technical input to secure future work across highways, rail, and public infrastructure.

Responsibilities for Senior Estimator

• Lead all aspects of infrastructure tenders from start to finish
• Manage and mentor a small team of estimators
• Chair tender review meetings and liaise with directors and bid teams
• Prepare and submit accurate and competitive pricing proposals
• Engage with supply chain and subcontractors to gather accurate rates and insights
• Work closely with Tier 1 clients to understand expectations and requirements

Requirements for Senior Estimator

• Proven background as a Senior Estimator or Estimating Manager in civil engineering
• Strong experience working on infrastructure projects (e.g. highways, rail, civils frameworks)
• Previous work with or for Tier 1 contractors such as Taylor Woodrow, Bam Nuttall, etc.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills
• Thorough understanding of tender processes, buildability, and commercial risk
