Job summary

East Suffolk Council is seeking a Principal Environmental Protection Officer to join our Environmental Protection team on a full-time, permanent basis. The role leads on environmental regulation, guides a small team of officers, and supports the Environmental Protection Manager to deliver high-quality, customer-focused services across East Suffolk.

The successful candidate will provide technical leadership on complex environmental challenges, drive service improvements, and work across a diverse

Qualifications

Degree in Environmental Health or a related field
Extensive knowledge of environmental health legislation, regulation and enforcement
Proven and extensive experience across Environmental Protection disciplines (statutory nuisance, environmental permitting, animal licensing, noise control, private water supplies, environmental crime)
Strong leadership, mentoring and people management skills
Willingness to travel across the East Suffolk district

Responsibilities

Provide expert technical leadership on Environmental Regulation
Lead and develop a small team of Environmental Protection professionals
Provide expert advice, mentoring and support to ensure a high quality, customer-focused service
Oversee pollution investigations, enforcement activity and environmental regulation
Collaborate across the broader Environmental Protection team to ensure resilience and variety in duties
