Job summary

East Suffolk Council is seeking a Principal Environmental Protection Officer to support the Environmental Protection Manager and lead a small team focused on environmental regulation and health protection across East Suffolk.

You will provide expert leadership on pollution investigations, regulatory enforcement and service delivery, guiding a high quality, customer-focused service while collaborating with colleagues across the Environmental Protection team.

Qualifications

• A degree in Environmental Health or related Environmental Science field.
• Extensive knowledge of environmental health legislation, regulation and enforcement.
• Proven experience across Environmental Protection disciplines (e.g., nuisance, permits, licensing, noise, crime).
• Strong leadership and people management skills with the ability to inspire and develop others.
• Collaborative and analytical approach with a focus on continuous improvement and service excellence.
• Ability to travel across the East Suffolk district.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a small team of Environmental Protection professionals.
• Provide expert advice on pollution investigations, environmental regulation and enforcement.
• Support colleagues across the broader Environmental Protection team to ensure resilience and coverage.
