DescriptionUnited Utilities have appointed 7 partners to Enterprise, delivering £5.5bn of projects in the Asset Management Period 8 (AMP8) between 2025 – 2030, and AMP 9 (2030 – 2035). The scope is to provide project management, design, construction and commissioning services on design and build schemes throughout the North west and Cumbria region covered by United Utilities. Projects vary in value from £10m - c£600m covering both infrastructure and non-infrastructure assets on water and wastewater sites with wider Enterprise partners.
To lead the Contract Environmental function, provide Environmental solutions and enable the Contract Leadership / Operational Teams to implement the Group SHE Management System.
To lead the contract for setting up for success across design, mobilisation and construction in relation to environment.
Key input will be required to:
- support projects with planning permission/permitted development
- ecology management
- carbon management
- influencing and supporting with enterprise environmental strategy
- developing and writing environmental management documents
- applying for environmental licenses
- To build and maintain relationships with all stakeholders, whilst providing an independent and objective view of Environmental Performance across the Framework / Programme.

Responsibilities- Develop and provide line management to direct reports and liaise with wider SHE Team
- Support and Influence Contract Leadership Team, Clients and Stakeholders in compliance with the Group SHE Management System and Framework/ Programme Performance, identifying risks and ensuring mitigation is in place and effective.
- Support the contract team in applying for and managing compliance with environmental permits and consents. Liaise with and manage relationships with the environmental Regulator (EA, Local authority etc).
- Ensure delivery of training and coaching, by competent individuals, to allow the contract team to successfully implement the Group SHE Management System
- Be actively involved in the appointment and ongoing assessment of the Contracts Supply Chain Contractors
- Actively support the delivery of the annual Contract and Group SHE Objectives
- Develop & implement a Contract Environmental Assurance programme to ensure compliance with company and statutory requirements
- Ensure all unplanned events and assurance findings are categorised, investigated and lessons are shared in accordance with the Group SHE Management System
- Timely reporting, analysis and use of Environmental data to support and influence the Contract Leadership Team and where required develop and implement data-based improvement plans
QualificationsEssential
- AdvancedEnvironmental related experience
- Environmental permitting and carbon management experience
- Environmental Degree
- Institute of Leadership and Management Level 5 Line Managers tool kit or equivalent
- Commercial Awareness
- Programme/Project management
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable
- RelevantEnvironmental experience in relevant industry and experience of managing and training others
- Variety of contract / sector requiring different skills / knowledge
- Relevant Degree or equivalent (NVQ Level 6)
- MIEMA CEnv or equivalent
