Qualifications

  • Holds the NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety (or equivalent) – Essential.
  • Demonstrable experience in EHS roles, ideally within a food manufacturing or regulated environment.

Senior Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist

Location: Greater Manchester

Salary Range: £45k to £50k + Benefits

I’m currently recruiting on behalf of a leading food manufacturing business for a Senior EHS Specialist to join their team. This is a key position with responsibility for shaping and embedding a proactive, high-performance safety culture across the site’s operations.

If you're an experienced safety professional with strong technical expertise, a passion for continuous improvement, and NEBOSH qualifications, this could be your ideal next step.

The Role:
  1. Develop and implement robust health & safety policies in line with UK legislation and industry standards
  2. Conduct risk assessments, safety audits, and hazard identification initiatives
  3. Lead training and development on topics including fire safety, manual handling, PPE, and emergency procedures
  4. Drive compliance across EHS standards, producing regular reports and liaising with external regulators
  5. Lead thorough incident investigations, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions
  6. Deliver occupational health & wellbeing programmes, including health surveillance
  7. Take ownership of environmental management and continuous improvement initiatives
  8. Promote engagement through safety campaigns, events, and communication strategies
  9. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation, best practices, and emerging risks
Your Skills & Experience:
  1. Educated to degree level in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or related field
  2. Holds the NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety (or equivalent) – Essential
  3. Demonstrable experience in EHS roles, ideally within a food manufacturing or regulated environment
  4. Strong understanding of UK H&S legislation, compliance, and audit processes
  5. Effective trainer with the ability to develop and deliver engaging safety content
  6. Skilled in incident reporting, data analysis, and performance monitoring
  7. A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with excellent stakeholder communication skills
  8. Flexible approach to working hours and site needs (some weekend/holiday coverage may be required)
