Description

We are seeking a Senior Environmental Health Officer to undertake the full range of duties appropriate to the Section as required, being responsible for the completion of work programmes and tasks laid down by the Team Manager, including the supervision and management of Lead Officers, Environmental Health Officers, and Technical Officers or Assistants.

Responsibilities

To manage staff by allocating work, determining priorities, and monitoring performance, ensuring that the standards laid down by legislation, codes of practice, statutory guidance, and policies and procedures are met.

Essential Qualifications

• GCSE Grade (or equivalent) in English Language and Mathematics.
• A Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health or equivalent, or a relevant professional level qualification/certification.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), social media, and CRM.

Knowledge, Experience, and Skills

• Broad knowledge and legal understanding of environmental health enforcement, including domestic noise control and nuisance intervention.
• Understanding of planning applications, enforcement work, and appeals.
• Experience responding to complaints from the public, stakeholders, and elected members.
• Ability to build trusted relationships quickly, de-escalate conflicts, provide education and advice, and use regulatory powers effectively.
• Experience working with various agencies and professionals.
• Experience in case management, gathering information and evidence for legal actions, and understanding court procedures.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to explain legislation and procedures clearly.
• Ability to listen carefully, influence others, and document activities accurately.
• Decision-making skills to assess risks and determine appropriate interventions to ensure compliance and reduce risks.
• Ability to plan and manage workload within set targets and timeframes.
• Advanced IT skills, proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
