Senior Environmental Health Officer
£42,708 - £46,731 per annum

Permanent, full-time (37 hours per week)

About Us

East Staffordshire Borough Council is a high performing authority and a great mix of town and country. Our Environmental Health Team cover a vast range of food businesses; home to Coors and Marstons we have a range of approved premises and manufacturers including minced meat prep, meat products and cheese manufacturers and are primary authority for Punch Taverns. We are focussed on improving housing conditions for our residents and have an established selective licensing area along with a large number of licensed HMOs.

The Role

An exciting opportunity has opened up for a Senior Environmental Health Officer that has experience and competence specifically in food hygiene and housing standards enforcement.

The postholder will lead, guide and motivate members of the team, as appropriate, and work with peers in the team to ensure the most effective use of resources whilst delivering positive outcomes. You will be required to provide a senior role for the effective delivery of the proactive and reactive work programmes for Food Safety, Housing Standards, Health & Safety and Public Health to ensure statutory duties and service delivery targets are met and professional services are delivered to customers.

Key Requirements

  1. You must have practical experience and a proven track record in Food, Housing or Health and Safety and hold a Bsc/Msc in Environmental Health or equivalent.
  2. We are looking for an individual with lead officer competency in accordance with the Food Law Code of Practice.
  3. You must have a proven track record in providing advice and assistance to other members of staff/service areas within the scope of environmental health and an ability to interact effectively with the public, local communities, local stakeholders, other agencies and public bodies, difficult people and situations.

Skills & Experience

  1. You must be able to work both autonomously and as part of a team.
  2. You should possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to analyse and interpret legislation and enforce it in a balanced way.
  3. The successful applicant should also possess the ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
