Job summary

North Devon District Council is seeking an experienced Environmental Health Officer for a senior leadership role within the Private Sector Housing Team. You will lead inspections, enforcement, licensing, and advisory work across private housing including HMOs, caravans and park homes, and contribute to renters rights enforcement.

A driving licence and access to a car are essential for inspections across North Devon.

Qualifications

• Experience as an Environmental Health Officer or equivalent in housing/regulatory roles.
• Knowledge of Housing Acts and Renters Rights Act.
• Ability to lead teams and manage inspections across multiple sites.

Responsibilities

• Inspect private housing, including HMOs, and investigate housing, nuisance and environmental complaints.
• Lead in specialist areas and provide advice to owners, landlords and tenants.
• Manage licensing for park homes, caravans and tented campsites.
• Serve notices, prepare legal briefs and represent the Council in legal proceedings.
• Supervise junior and trainee officers and develop regulatory partnerships.
• Brief senior managers, prepare reports and undertake housing projects.
• Attend meetings and maintain current professional knowledge.
• Keep accurate, timely records.
