Job summary

Ayesa Engineering - UK and Ireland is seeking an experienced environmental permitting lead to drive complex projects across the UK. You will oversee risk assessments, permit applications, and regulatory submissions, while mentoring junior staff and ensuring QA/QC across project phases.

Hybrid working arrangement with 2-3 days from home, and a focus on client relationship management, strategic advice to regulators, and business development within the Environmental Permitting team.

Qualifications

• 10+ years’ experience in environmental consultancy or regulatory sectors.
• Deep understanding of UK environmental permitting frameworks and risk-based approaches.
• Proficiency with MS Word and Excel; report writing and data management.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and delivery of complex environmental permitting projects.
• Manage technical outputs including risk assessments, permit applications, and regulatory submissions.
• Apply risk assessment tools (e.g. LandSim, H1) and understand how permitting interacts with environmental legislation.
• Support and mentor junior staff across project phases; oversee task allocation and QA/QC processes.
• Prepare technical proposals, quotes, and fee estimates; identify and secure new opportunities.

What You’ll Be Doing

Project Leadership & Technical Delivery

• Lead the development and delivery of complex environmental permitting projects
• Manage technical outputs - risk assessments, environmental permit applications, and regulatory submissions
• Apply risk assessment tools (e.g. LandSim, H1) and understand how permitting interacts with environmental legislation

Team & Client Management

• Support and mentor junior staff across project phases
• Oversee task allocation, QA/QC processes, and knowledge transfer
• Maintain and grow client relationships; provide strategic advice to stakeholders and regulators

Business Development & Strategic Growth

• Prepare technical proposals, quotes, and fee estimates
• Identify and secure new opportunities through existing and emerging client networks
• Support growth of the Environmental Permitting team across the UK

What You’ll Need

• BSc in Environmental Science, Geography, Geology, Civil Engineering, or related field
• 10+ years’ experience in environmental consultancy or regulatory sectors
• Deep understanding of UK environmental permitting frameworks and risk-based approaches
• Proficiency with MS Word and Excel; confident in report writing and data management
• Strong project management and communication skills
• Experience with Environmental Management Systems (EMS) and Quality Management Systems (QMS)
• MSc or relevant higher qualification
• Chartered status (e.g., CIWEM, IEMA, or similar)
