In Squadron 42, space isn't just a backdrop; it's a key part of storytelling. This role is ideal for artists passionate about crafting and shaping the visual identity of space itself.

We're seeking someone with a passion for Spacescaping, our term for atmospheric and large-scale space environment worldbuilding, using our in-house engine and procedural tools like Houdini to create everything from asteroid fields to orbital platforms in the universe of Squadron 42.

You will work with a seasoned art team to build environments supporting cinematic moments and player immersion — whether that's a derelict station, a space storm, or a ship graveyard.

We are a crowdfunded company with an enthusiastic community of backers helping us create the "Best Damn Space Sim Ever".

What does a Senior Environment Spacescape Artist at CIG do?

• Design and craft visually stunning, immersive space environments, both hand-crafted and procedural.
• Develop and maintain asset libraries for elements like asteroid fields, nebulae, derelict stations, and orbital structures.
• Use procedural tools (e.g., Houdini) to create complex environmental content.
• Collaborate with Art Direction to define visual styles for different space regions and story locations.
• Contribute to polishing and final content integration as we approach game release.
• Guide and support junior team members.

What do we expect from our Senior Environment Spacescape Artists?

• Strong understanding of scale, composition, lighting, and mood in environmental storytelling, especially in vast environments.
• Experience shipping a game or working in cinematic/AAA production pipelines.
• Proficiency with Houdini for procedural layout, scattering, volumetrics, and asset generation.
• Experience with shaders, VFX, and volumetrics is a plus.
• Clear, collaborative communication style and openness to feedback.
• Ability to work independently and within a team.
