Job summary

The Financial Times is seeking an Enterprise Architect to lead the long-term technology architecture strategy across the organisation. You will align technology investments with business priorities, balancing innovation, resilience, and maintainability while partnering with Technology Directors, Product leaders and Data teams.

Reporting to the CTO, you’ll shape enterprise-wide architecture and governance, guiding initiatives across editorial, subscription, commercial and data platforms.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in Enterprise Architecture and technology strategy within complex digital organisations.
• Proven track record of shaping enterprise architecture, roadmaps and transformation programmes.
• Experience influencing decisions across multiple teams without direct authority.
• Ability to manage complex technology portfolios balancing strategy and delivery.
• Strong understanding of cloud platforms and modern delivery practices.
• Excellent communication to senior leaders and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain enterprise technology strategy, roadmaps and target-state architecture.
• Maintain broad, company-wide view of platforms, services and capabilities against strategic goals.
• Identify opportunities to simplify and modernise the technology estate while reducing cost and complexity.
• Define enterprise architecture principles, standards and governance; chair architecture review forums.
• Translate business priorities into technology roadmaps with Product and Technology leaders.
• Provide architectural direction for major transformation projects across the organisation.
• Oversee technology lifecycles, platform strategy and build-vs-buy decisions with suppliers.
• Address risks, dependencies and architectural trade-offs within the portfolio.
• Advise CTO and Technology SLT on strategy, architecture and investments.
• Build strong cross-functional relationships across Product, Engineering, Data and Delivery.
• Promote long-term thinking balanced with delivery realities; foster simplicity and collaboration.
