About the role:

As a Senior Engineering Technician within Powys County Council’s Highways, Transport & Recycling service, you will play a vital role in delivering civil engineering projects that maintain and enhance the county’s highway and property infrastructure. Working under the guidance of Senior or Principal Engineers, you willcontribute to the full lifecycle of projects—from design and documentation to on-site supervision and public engagement—ensuring that works are delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.

About you:

The ideal candidate will be a proactive and detail-oriented technician with:

  • Practical experience in highways or structural projects.
  • Proficiency in design software and AutoCAD.
  • A solid understanding of construction best practices, health and safety legislation, and environmental considerations.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to manage workloads and interact confidently with colleagues, contractors, and the public.
  • A collaborative mindset, a willingness to learn, and a commitment to continuous professional development.

What you will do:

  • Prepare designs, calculations, drawings, reports, and contract documentation for assigned projects.
  • Develop bespoke engineering solutions, considering site constraints, ecology, and biodiversity.
  • Supervise and monitor construction works, ensuring compliance with specifications and contracts.
  • Direct apprentices and student placements to support project delivery.
  • Liaise with stakeholders, statutory undertakers, and the public.
  • Participate in training, research best practices, and contribute to public engagement efforts.
  • Ensure health and safety standards are upheld and promote equality of opportunity in all aspects of work.
