Morgan Sindall Infrastructure is recruiting a Senior Engineering Manager in Birmingham to lead engineering across major overhead line projects within a large framework. You will provide technical and leadership across multidisciplinary teams, ensuring safety, quality, and programme delivery from early development through construction.

The role requires a degree in engineering (preferred), proven leadership of large teams, and a strong grasp of OHL construction and SHEQ.

Qualifications

• Degree in Engineering or related discipline (preferred).
• Experience in overhead line (OHL) engineering and infrastructure projects.
• Strong leadership experience managing engineering teams on large-scale projects or framework programmes.
• Excellent technical understanding of overhead line construction, standards and delivery.
• Knowledge of SHEQ requirements in infrastructure.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and foster collaboration.
• Experience reviewing and approving engineering designs and solutions.
• Strong problem-solving, planning and organisational abilities.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering activities across overhead line projects, ensuring delivery aligns with programme objectives.
• Provide technical leadership to engineering teams throughout all project phases.
• Oversee development, review and implementation of engineering solutions in line with standards.
• Support project planning, risk management and delivery strategies for safety, on-time, within-budget delivery.
• Collaborate with project management, construction, commercial and operational teams to achieve objectives.
• Ensure all engineering activities comply with SHEQ requirements.
• Manage engineering resources and talent development within the team.
• Review and approve engineering documentation and submissions.
• Identify and drive continuous improvement across processes and delivery.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Engineering Manager to join our team and play a key role in the delivery of major overhead line infrastructure projects within a large-scale framework programme. Reporting into the wider project leadership team, you will provide technical and engineering leadership across complex projects, ensuring engineering excellence, safety, quality, programme performance, and stakeholder requirements are achieved. Role Responsibilities

• Lead and manage engineering activities across overhead line projects, ensuring successful delivery in line with programme objectives.
• Provide technical leadership and guidance to engineering teams throughout all project phases.
• Oversee the development, review, and implementation of engineering solutions, ensuring compliance with industry standards and project specifications.
• Support project planning, risk management, and delivery strategies to ensure projects are completed safely, on time and within budget.
• Collaborate with project management, construction, commercial and operational teams to achieve project objectives.
• Ensure all engineering activities are undertaken in accordance with Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) requirements.
• Manage engineering resources and support the development of engineering talent within the team.
• Review and approve engineering documentation, designs, and technical submissions.
• Identify and drive continuous improvement opportunities across engineering processes and project delivery.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, clients, supply chain partners, and regulatory bodies.

Skills, Experience And Qualifications

• Degree-qualified in Engineering or a related discipline (preferred).
• Experience within overhead line (OHL) engineering and infrastructure projects.
• Strong leadership experience managing engineering teams on large-scale projects or framework programmes.
• Excellent technical understanding of overhead line construction, engineering standards, and project delivery.
• Knowledge of Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) requirements within the infrastructure sector.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.

Our transmission and distribution services involve the upgrading and replacement of electricity assets both above and below ground. Within the electricity sector we install and maintain assets, including excavation, laying, and jointing of cables, (fluid filled and XLPe), substations and overhead line, new build, repair, and refurbishment services.
