Job summary

Kraken is seeking a senior engineering leader to lead and grow a team of 8-10 engineers responsible for core trading backend services, including the matching engine, market data gateways, and order-entry systems.

You will guide the evolution of our trading stack from legacy components to modern replacements, stay technically hands-on to unblock architecture discussions, drive performance and data initiatives, and collaborate with product and other pods to execute the roadmap.

Qualifications

• Experience managing engineering teams with hands-on technical engagement.
• Proficiency in Rust and/or C++ and familiarity with multi-language teams.
• Knowledge of order types, trading systems, and financial products.
• Experience with Aeron or similar messaging/transport systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow a team of 8-10 engineers owning core trading backend services (matching engine, market data gateways, order-entry).
• Guide evolution of the trading stack from legacy to modern replacements.
• Stay technically close to the stack to unblock architecture discussions and contribute to coding when needed.
• Champion performance and market data initiatives as top priorities.
• Bring AI-assisted engineering practices into the team workflow.
• Partner cross-functionally with product and other engineering pods to drive roadmap execution.
