Job Title: Senior Engineering Manager (CEM)

Job Location: Cambridge South

Country/Region: United Kingdom

Murphy is recruiting for a Senior Engineering Manager (CEM)/ Senior Engineering Manager (CEM) to work with the Transportation team on the CP7 framework, constructing Cambridge South Station project.

Murphy is recruiting an experienced CEM to deliver a multi-disciplinary station project, which will be the new Cambridge South Station.
To be successful in this role, you will be confident in managing multiple stakeholders, implementing engineering strategies, and leading this highly visible multi-million-pound project.

A day in the life of a Murphy Senior Engineering Manager / CEM
  1. Manage and actively pursue performance improvement of the engineering capability and function, assisting in establishing and implementing best practice policies and procedures for the function.
  2. Take a proactive role in the management of careers and the learning & development of all engineering staff, including carrying out personal development reviews.
  3. Work closely with engineering institutions and manage the professional qualifications in conjunction with the learning & development team.
  4. Support the business unit in work winning as the technical leader in bids, with the application of engineering, design management, and quality.
  5. Provide guidance and support to projects to contribute a clear view for delivering engineering, design management, and quality.
  6. Manage the consultant supply chain framework and drive the performance and relationship management of the consultant community.
  7. Keep management informed of business area activity and progress achieved.
  8. Involvement in the development of Business Unit and Group Design Management continual process improvement activities.
  9. Monitor and expedite key engineering programme issues including procurement of services and equipment to the Business Unit Procurement function.
  10. Review and liaise with internal Temporary Works Coordinators and Designers to ensure appropriate consideration of constructability and required permanent works.
  11. Ensure an understanding of, and an influence on, the contracts Design Consultants are working under including their fees, schedule of services, programme, liabilities, and warranties.
  12. Review and comment on the payment applications from consultants and pass to the contract surveyor for processing and payment.

  • Experience managing multi-disciplinary, large rail projects.
  • Ideally an experienced CEM.
  • Membership of a UK Engineering institute.
  • Demonstrable experience in a leadership role in the engineering function of a major UK contractor engaged in rail, highways, utilities, tunnelling, or other heavy civil engineering.
  • Must have multi-discipline experience with CSM-RA and interoperability entry into service experience.
  • A motivated and driven team member who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment delivering world-class infrastructure and managing a team of like-minded people.
