Job summary

SWARCO UK is seeking a Senior Engineer - Traffic Signals, Signs and Systems to join the Birmingham Depot, delivering maintenance and commissioning for the Black Country contract. The role focuses on installing, fault-finding and supporting ITS and traffic signal systems on site.

We value practical engineering, strong problem-solving, and the ability to coach less experienced engineers, with a full UK driving licence and sector qualifications.

Qualifications

• Experience in traffic signal, ITS, signs, electrical or electronic engineering.
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
• Sector 8 accreditation and qualifications including NRSWA, G39 and ECS where applicable.
• Knowledge of safe working practices and Health & Safety.
• Ability to work independently and in a team on site.
• Ability to coach and share knowledge with less experienced engineers.
• Good communication and organisational skills.
• Reliable, practical and safety-focused approach.
• Full UK Driving Licence.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, fault-find and commission traffic signal & signs equipment and ITS.
• Ensure works are completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
• Provide practical support and guidance to Engineers on site.
• Work across planned and reactive maintenance; respond to faults; complete required documentation; standby and call-out arrangements.

Challenge

We are looking for an experienced Senior Engineer to join our team based from our Birmingham Depot, supporting the delivery of our Black Country contract.

The role will involve installing, maintaining, fault-finding and commissioning traffic signal & signs equipment and Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), ensuring works are completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

As a Senior Engineer, you will also use your experience to provide practical support and guidance to Engineers and Trainee Engineers on site, sharing your technical knowledge and helping to develop capability across the team.

You will work across planned and reactive maintenance activities, respond to faults, complete required operational documentation and participate in standby and call-out arrangements as required.

Profile

We are looking for someone with:

• Experience in traffic signal, ITS, signs, electrical or electronic engineering.
• Strong practical engineering, fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
• Relevant Sector 8 accreditation and associated industry qualifications, including NRSWA, G39 and ECS where applicable.
• A good understanding of safe working practices and Health & Safety requirements.
• The ability to work independently and as part of an operational engineering team.
• The ability to support, coach and share technical knowledge with less experienced Engineers and Trainee Engineers.
• Good communication and organisational skills.
• A reliable, practical and safety-focused approach.
• A full UK Driving Licence.

An HNC, ONC or equivalent qualification in an Electrical/Electronic discipline and additional relevant industry qualifications would be advantageous.
