This is an exceptional opportunity to work on critical national infrastructure and contribute to the ongoing transformation of the energy system as it moves toward a lower-carbon future.

About the Role:
Working within a high-performing System Operations function, you'll play a key role in supporting the reliable, safe, and efficient operation of the power system - from long-term planning through to near real-time support. You will help manage network maintenance coordination, emergency preparedness, and cross-border cooperation, while also contributing to complex technical and regulatory projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide engineering input into system operation planning - from a year in advance to real-time readiness.
  • Assist in the development and testing of emergency plans related to power systems and critical IT systems used in the control room environment.
  • Support the delivery of high-impact projects across operational, regulatory, and commercial areas.
  • Contribute to audits and compliance activities, including implementation of improvements from audit outcomes.
  • Monitor, analyse, and report on transmission system performance and incident response.
  • Build strong working relationships with industry stakeholders including transmission operators, generators, regulators, and government bodies.
  • Produce technical documentation such as reports, guidance notes, and briefings.
  • Proactively identify risks and escalate operational concerns as required.

What You'll Bring:
Essential Criteria:

  • Degree in Engineering or a related technical field with at least 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong team collaboration and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently when required.
  • Experience in power systems operations or similar technical environments.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to explain complex technical topics clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.

Desirable:

  • Proficiency in power system modelling or analysis tools.
  • Good understanding of the energy industry, market structure, and policy environment.
  • Familiarity with MS Office and technical reporting tools.

What's on Offer:

  • Competitive salary (negotiable based on experience)
  • Annual performance-related bonus scheme
  • Generous pension scheme with employer contributions
  • Private healthcare provision
  • Hybrid working model (3 days in office, 2 from home)
  • Flexible start/finish times and supportive working culture
  • Complimentary parking with on-site EV charging
  • Enhanced holiday entitlement and salary sacrifice schemes (e.g. cycle to work, pension)

If you're an experienced engineer looking for a role where your work has real impact across energy security and sustainability, this is your opportunity to get involved at a crucial time of industry transformation.
