Job summary

Carrington West is recruiting a Senior Engineer for a major substation civils project in Derbyshire. You will own civils work areas from setting out to handover, ensuring buildability, quality, and records readiness.

You’ll lead on-site activities, coordinate with electrical, control, cabling and steel teams, and manage RAMS, permits and hold points. A CSCS/EUSR card, Temporary Works competence, CAT & Genny, and a UK driving licence are required.

Qualifications

• A degree or HNC in civil engineering, or equivalent.
• Senior Engineer experience on major civils, energy or substation projects.
• Tier 1 experience is essential.
• A CSCS or EUSR card.
• Temporary Works Supervisor competence.
• CAT & Genny.
• Good AutoCAD skills and confidence with digital document control.
• A full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Setting out, survey control and dimensional checks across your packages.
• Reviewing construction drawings, finding problems early, and raising and closing out technical queries (TQs).
• Advising on build ability for foundations, bunds, control buildings, cable routes, earthing, drainage and access roads.
• Coordinating with the electrical, protection & control, cabling, steelwork and commissioning teams.
• Briefing the workforce and making sure work follows the approved RAMS, permits and hold points, including excavation, lifting and temporary works.
• Writing and running ITPs, check sheets and inspection records.
• Managing material approvals, concrete and test records, red-line drawings and as builts.
• Closing out defects and non‑conformance reports (NCRs) with proper root‑cause evidence.
• Producing short term look‑aheads with supervisors and subcontractors, tracking progress and keeping clear records to support change control.

£45,000 - £55,000 + £5,500 car allowance + private healthcare

Carrington West is working with an established tier 1 civil engineering contractor that is growing its Transmission and Distribution business. They are looking for a Senior Engineer for a major substation project. You would take technical ownership of your own civils work areas from first setting out through to handover.

The role

You’ll report to the Sub Agent/Site Agent and be the engineering lead for your work areas. That means making sure what’s on the drawings can actually be built, controlling quality on site, and making sure the records hold up at handover.

Where the client’s site safety rules require it, the employer will arrange the client’s own authorisations and site specific training after you join.
