A little more about your role…

WSP are seeking an enthusiastic and talented Senior Engineer to join the Roads team based in Leeds.

You’ll be working alongside a host of talented people ranging from our early career professionals to established engineers and project managers working across the Roads business to improve the local and strategic networks.

Working in partnership with National Highways and Local Authority clients across the region you could find yourself immersed in a diverse range of projects including active travel, digital design (including 3D modelling), strategic network improvements, major and minor maintenance, alignment, road safety as well as public realm. The role will offer an interesting and varied workload – from major strategic highways projects such as Smart Motorways through to a diverse range of small and medium local authority highways infrastructure improvement schemes.

Your role will be at the heart of our high performing team, using your technical skills and expertise to help us continue driving forward in terms of both technical quality and service efficiency.

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Prepare of designs and specifications in accordance with Design Manual Roads Bridges (DMRB).
  • Develop designs using AutoCAD, and Civil3D.
  • Deliver work packages with scope to move up to managing schemes and multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Provide support to Project Managers within the design team in planning, programming, technical input to the pricing of project briefs, proposals, deliverables and cost estimation.
  • Be accountable for checking, certifying and authorising for issue designs, documents, approvals, and reports.
  • Manage graduate engineers and technicians to deliver work packages coordinating engineering resources.
  • Work collaboratively with clients and key stakeholders as necessary to deliver the schemes/projects.
  • Mentor and upskill more junior staff helping them develop professionally and progress towards professional qualifications.

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…

  • A degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent within a highway design role.
  • Working towards IEng or CEng status with a professional institute. Professional qualifications is advantageous.
  • Highways design experience in accordance with the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB).
  • Experience of complying with Designers Duties under CDM
  • Experience in delivery geometric designs using AutoDesk Civils 3D is advantageous.
  • An extensive knowledge and understanding of the relevant legislation, standards and procedures including the application of departures from standard.
  • NEC and/or Project Management experience is advantageous.
  • A passion for design and developing innovative solutions.
  • To demonstrate initiative and ingenuity in solving engineering problems.
