Job summary

National Highways is seeking a Senior Engineer to join the Improvements Team in our Darlington office. You will develop road safety and improvement schemes from identification to detailed design for the Designated Funds programme, and undertake Road Safety Audits across a range of schemes.

Key activities include evaluating asset data, preparing briefs, developing feasible solutions, and collaborating with Programme Development and Scheme Delivery to progress schemes through appraisal and Value

Qualifications

• Degree in Highway Design with at least four years' experience.
• Detailed working knowledge of DMRB, the Traffic Signs Manual and relevant guidance.
• Experience developing and assessing highway improvement schemes, including benefits and business cases.
• Experience producing preliminary highway designs, including 2D AutoCAD drawings.
• Experience preparing and reviewing technical notes and Road Safety Audit processes with CDM 2015 knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Undertaking evaluation of asset data and identifying network needs to develop solutions.
• Preparing briefs for surveys to support development of improvement solutions.
• Developing early solutions from feasibility through preliminary design and progressing schemes.
• Collaborating with Programme Development and Scheme Delivery to identify deliverable solutions.
• Undertaking Road Safety Audits at all stages and roles.
