Job description

With growing project deliverables and a strong growth strategy for Scotland, we currently have an opportunity for a Senior Civil Engineer (Renewables Energy Infrastructure) to join our team in Edinburgh.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Lead the production of design packages for renewable energy projects, including wind, transmission, and other infrastructure, considering buildability, electrical standards, and environmental constraints.
  • Design bridges and retaining structures, considering flooding levels and structural forms.
  • Conduct catchment assessments and culvert hydraulic design, including CAR authorization.
  • Develop sustainable drainage concepts and details, consulting with EA or SEPA as needed.
  • Create public highway improvement concepts and detailed designs for electrical component delivery, including consultations and permits.
  • Coordinate with geotechnical and structural leads to support multidisciplinary design services.
  • Manage multi-disciplinary engineering projects and serve as the client’s key point of contact.
  • Manage health, safety, and environmental hazards from design to detailed stages, communicating residual risks effectively.
  • Implement project management procedures, adhering to HSQE principles and statutory requirements.

Experience:

  • Postgraduate experience in a consulting engineering practice or similar.
  • Experience leading or being part of civil infrastructure design teams for renewable projects.
  • Knowledge of onshore wind, offshore wind land-based works, and renewable infrastructure.
  • Understanding of environmental and engineering design procedures and construction processes.
  • Client relationship management skills.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and relevant software.

Technical Attributes:

  • Civil infrastructure design experience within core duties.
  • Developing project management and multidisciplinary coordination skills.
  • Experience creating engineering drawings in AutoCAD.
  • Experience with Civils 3D modeling and geometrical design.
  • Knowledge of sustainable drainage design software.
  • Understanding of construction materials and testing.
  • Ability to assess or develop access solutions using DMRB and local standards.
  • Experience delivering design packages and obtaining approvals.
  • Multidisciplinary knowledge in environmental, geotechnical, or structural disciplines.

Qualifications:

  • BEng or MEng in Civil/Structural Engineering.
  • Chartered Engineer status with ICE, CIHT, or working towards it preferred.
