Historically, the role of IT has been to provide a reliable ecosystem to run the business, drive efficiencies and reduce costs. These areas remain integral, however, driven by the quickening pace of innovation, IT must evolve, proactively partnering with the business to enable new digital business models that power new types of customer engagement.

At Elanco, our engineer roles bring an adaptive set of skills covering Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), Commercial-of-the-Shelf (COTS), and/or Custom Developed applications. The role is part of our software engineering team established to deliver engineering expertise to business-facing products and services. As an engineer, you will be deployed into a multi-disciplined product team applying your software engineering talent to Elanco’s biggest opportunities.

Your Responsibilities:

Engineering

• Join a diverse engineering organization and contribute to growing our engineering capabilities across software and platform engineering.
• Develop full-stack solutions, building highly scalable distributed solutions that enable positive user experiences and measurable business growth.
• Implement and support modern digital products that are technologically sound, avoid technical debt, ensure compliance, and enable business outcomes.
• Collaborate with platform engineering teams to shape their products, allowing software engineers to deliver business value faster.
• Identify continuous improvement opportunities within our core ecosystem to enhance developer and application team experiences.
• Embed security, privacy, data protection, and quality assurance across all digital solutions.
• Build and maintain responsibility for the products you work on, balancing quality and stability with new feature development.
• Partner with product managers to establish and refine backlogs, assist in sizing tasks, and help design engineering approaches to meet feature requirements.
• Participate in rotations across different engineering functions to broaden skills.
• Contribute to the engineering community by sharing best practices, collaborating, and problem-solving across the organization.

Product Team

• Join our core function building platforms that enhance developer experience across the enterprise.
• Work with both front-end and back-end technologies, including integration with third-party SaaS solutions.
• Support and drive capabilities that facilitate development processes, including SaaS configuration and custom solutions.
• Contribute to shaping our Horizon software developer patterns, leveraging infrastructure as code to accelerate development.
• Align engineering expectations with product standards, collaborating with tech leads or principal engineers.
• Upskill and coach fellow engineers to foster a competent engineering team.

Innovation

• Seek opportunities for internal and external partnership through hackathons and other initiatives to drive innovation.
• Use modern product development approaches, such as rapid prototyping, to influence and shape business strategies.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or related field.
• At least 5 years of experience in modern application architecture, cloud-native design (preferably Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud), and digital solution delivery using agile or similar methodologies.
• Experience working within a DevSecOps culture, including CI/CD, TDD, and modern software development practices.
• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform and deployment platforms such as Kubernetes.
• Proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript, React, and Node.js.
• Strong understanding of API ecosystems, digital platform support, and large-scale digital solutions.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly across diverse audiences.
