Job summary

Bimplus requires an experienced Freelance Senior Engineer to lead on-site engineering for a £20m distribution centre project in Newport. The role covers setting out, drawings review, QA, and coordination with subcontractors on a six-month contract. Immediate start and CIS daily rate apply.

Strong background in groundworks, drainage, concrete, steel frame and external works, plus CSCS and surveying tool proficiency, are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Senior engineer with experience on large industrial/logistics projects.
• Strong knowledge of groundworks, drainage, reinforced concrete, steel frame and external works.
• Experience defining QA procedures and ITPs.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
• Civil Engineering degree or equivalent (HNC/HND).
• Valid CSCS Card.
• Proficient with Leica or Trimble surveying equipment.

Responsibilities

• Lead all on-site engineering activities, including setting out and technical support.
• Review and coordinate drawings, specifications and design information.

• Produce and maintain site records and as-built drawings.

The OpportunityWe're looking for an experienced Freelance Senior Engineer to join the team delivering a £20m new-build Distribution Centre in Newport. Working for a well-established main contractor with an excellent reputation in the industrial and logistics sector, you'll take the lead on all site engineering activities, ensuring works are delivered safely, accurately and in line with programme and quality expectations. This is an excellent opportunity to join a major project from the early stages and play a key role in its successful delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead all on-site engineering activities, including setting out and technical support.
• Review and coordinate drawings, specifications and design information.
• Oversee quality assurance procedures, Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) and temporary works.
• Produce and maintain accurate site records, including as-built drawings and technical documentation.
• Ensure works are delivered in accordance with project specifications and programme requirements.
• Monitor quality standards across all engineering activities.
• Support the Site and Project Management team with technical expertise.
• Promote and maintain the highest standards of health, safety and environmental compliance.
• Coordinate subcontractors and resolve technical issues on site.

Requirements

• Previous experience as a Senior Engineer on large industrial, logistics or commercial construction projects.
• Strong technical knowledge of groundworks, drainage, reinforced concrete, steel frame construction and external works.
• Experience managing QA procedures and Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs).
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
• Degree, HNC or HND in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
• Valid CSCS Card.
• Proficient in the use of Leica or Trimble surveying equipment.
