Senior Engineer - Mobile

Hybrid (up to 3 days per week working from home)

Locations: Staines TW18 3DZ or Manchester M50 3SP

Permanent role

Salary: £57,000 - £71,000 per annum, depending on experience

10% management bonus scheme

Full-time – 37.5 hours per week

Within the UKIT Digital team at Bupa, the Senior Engineer – Digital, Mobile will be an expert in their field with proven mastery in React. As a Senior React mobile developer, you will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and supporting high-quality mobile applications for both iOS and Android.

How you’ll help us make health happen:

• Develop high-quality mobile applications using React for iOS and Android platforms.
• Collaborate with the Mobile lead on projects of varying scope and size.
• Work closely with UI/UX teams to ensure design and user experience meet requirements.
• Develop new or enhance existing applications in line with design, standards, methodologies, and architecture frameworks.
• Lead technical aspects within projects, working alongside SMEs.
• Contribute to solution design, impact analysis, and validation.
• Evaluate and improve existing products, taking ownership of changes.
• Drive improvements in development practices and documentation.
• Maintain and expand development standards in your domain.
• Work with business owners and solution designers to develop proof of concepts.
• Investigate and propose new technologies and methodologies.
• Manage implementation, change control, and release planning.
• Improve internal documentation of products and solutions.
• Serve as a technical support point for your domain teams.

Key Skills / Qualifications:

• Extensive experience in mobile application development with React.
• Proficiency with Styled Components, React Hooks, React Native Testing Library, API integrations (SDKs, Axios), Expo, Storybook.
• Knowledge of the full mobile development lifecycle, including deployment on Android and iOS.
• Strong JavaScript and TypeScript skills.
• Experience with Redux or similar state management libraries.
• Understanding of alternative mobile frameworks and cross-platform development.
• Experience with Microsoft App Center and app store deployment processes.
• Knowledge of mobile performance optimization techniques.
• DevOps experience using Azure DevOps, Webpack, Babel, npm.
• Agile methodologies.
• Knowledge of coding standards and source control.
• Strong communication skills.
• Flexible, able to perform under pressure.
• Teamwork skills.
• Excellent testing and documentation skills.
• Experience across development, support, design, or environment configuration roles.
• Broad technological knowledge or expertise in a specific area.
• Ability to translate business goals into technical solutions.
