Job summary

A local governmental body in Huddersfield is seeking a Senior Engineer to focus on road safety and engineering solutions. Job description

The Highway Safety team is responsible for ensuring that the 1930km road network is safe and suitable for all users to travel throughout Kirklees without being involved in a road traffic collision.

Recently adopting a Safe Systems approach to the introduction of engineering and education measures, the team is working towards our Vision Zero ambition of 0 Killed or Seriously Injured Casualties on our local roads by 2040.

To help achieve our ambition, we are looking for a Senior Engineer with the following skills and experience to join the team:

  • Experience in designing road engineering schemes – desirable with some safety-related experience
  • Ability to respond to Councillors, MPs, and residents’ concerns regarding road safety on the network
  • Ability to provide professional and technical advice in road safety and highway engineering
  • Capability to analyse engineering problems and, using technical expertise and engineering judgment, produce effective solutions—especially for interventions in areas with high collision rates
  • Experience in, or willingness to learn about, road safety audits and becoming an internal road safety auditor
  • Understanding of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, particularly the role of Designer, and ability to help others understand and undertake their responsibilities
