Job summary

Carrington West is seeking a Senior Ground Investigation Engineer to join our Exeter team. The role blends site work with office input, leading investigations and delivering robust reporting across the South West.

You will shape investigations, mentor engineers, and balance site and office tasks with hybrid working options up to two days per week. A strong geotechnical background and driving licence are essential.

Qualifications

Senior Ground Investigation Engineer

About the role

An established ground investigation specialist is looking for a Senior Engineer to join its Exeter team. You'll work on a varied mix of geotechnical and geoenvironmental projects across the South West, helping clients understand ground conditions and manage risk before construction begins.

The role combines practical site work with technical input in the office. You'll take the lead on more challenging investigations, support the delivery of projects from fieldwork through to reporting, and share your knowledge with engineers developing their experience. There is flexibility to shape the balance of site and office work around your strengths.

You’ll have substantial experience in ground investigation and the confidence to make sound decisions on site. A background in geology, earth or environmental science, civil engineering, or a related discipline would be well suited to the role.

You’ll be comfortable working with clients and colleagues, enjoy solving practical problems, and take pride in delivering reliable technical work. A full UK driving licence is required for site travel.
