Job summary

SOCOTEC is seeking a Senior Geologist to lead complex ground investigation projects within the Infrastructure division. The Coventry-based role requires independence, teamwork, and a strong geotechnical background to support infrastructure projects across the UK.

You will oversee GI projects, ensure health and safety compliance, and coordinate with clients and contractors. A proactive, reliable, and flexible approach is essential for success and career growth within SOCOTEC.

Qualifications

• Degree in geotechnical discipline (e.g., geotechnical engineering, geology) required.
• Minimum UK driving licence.
• Fitness to undertake site-based tasks on active sites and linear projects.

Responsibilities

• Plan, supervise and programme Ground Investigation projects across the UK.
• Prepare Health & Safety documentation for site works and promote safe practices.
• Liaise with clients, engineers and main contractors during site works.
• Compile monthly financial project accounts and support GI project managers.

Senior Geologist

As SOCOTEC grows, so do our teams. We’re looking for a dedicated Senior Geologist to join our Infrastructure division and wear the SOCOTEC badge with pride.

We are seeking a proactive, reliable, and flexible Senior Geologist to join our Coventry-based team. In this role, you’ll need the confidence to work independently, alongside the ability to collaborate effectively as part of a team. A background in geotechnical disciplines, along with extensive ground investigation experience, is essential to thrive in this position.
The tasks you will undertake will include (but are not limited to):

• Day to day responsibility for planning, supervision and programming of Ground Investigation projects at locations throughout the United Kingdom
• Prepare Health & Safety documentation prior to and during the site works phase, as well as assisting with the managing the Health & Safety of operatives and promoting a safe working environment
• Liaise with clients / Engineers / main contractors throughout the site works phase
• Compile monthly financial project accounts and assist the GI Projects Manager in maintaining the financial performance of projects

Qualifications

To be a successful Principal Geologist, you should be able to demonstrate:

• Qualified to degree level in a geotechnical discipline
• Full UK driving licence
• Have a minimum level of fitness required to undertake all site based tasks listed above on a variety of sites including active construction sites and linear projects for roads and railways
• 5 - 10 years relevant site and industry experience
