Job description

Are you ready to take the next step in your career? Do you want to do meaningful work that improves quality of life? At Tetra Tech, you will work with high-performing teams passionate about using their expertise to solve complex problems in water, environment, infrastructure, resource management, energy, and international development.

Tetra Tech is one of the largest and fastest-growing environmental consultancies worldwide. In 2023, the Engineering News-Record (ENR) ranked Tetra Tech #1 in Water for the 20th year in a row.

We are currently seeking a Senior Engineer to support our Water Engineering team across the UK, preferably based in Manchester, Leeds, Chorley, Cockermouth, or London. Other locations may be considered for the right candidate. Our team undertakes a variety of major infrastructure projects for both private and public sectors, focusing on integrated flood risk and drainage solutions with state-of-the-art design.

Our flood risk portfolio includes projects such as flood alleviation schemes for local authorities, the MOD, private clients, and surface water separation schemes for water utilities. We work closely with high-profile housing developers from inception through design and construction, including natural flood risk management and Sustainable Urban Drainage solutions.

As a project leader, you will guide teams, support clients, and assist in bidding and growth activities. Responsibilities include supporting project delivery in river, coastal, and flood defense appraisal and design, hydraulic modeling, hydrology assessment, surface water management, and business case development. Projects range from £10k to £100m and involve diverse clients across sectors.

You will work independently on technical aspects from project initiation to completion, support junior colleagues, and ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget. Mentoring, client engagement, and team collaboration are key components of the role. Our internal training, mentoring, CPD, and flexible hybrid working arrangements support your professional development, with some travel expected.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate experience in flood risk and surface water projects, report writing, client meetings, multidisciplinary teamwork, and knowledge of relevant regulations such as the NPPF. Proficiency in IT tools like ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Civils 3D, and Microsoft Office is required. Candidates should have a relevant degree, be Chartered or working towards chartership with ICE or CIWEM, and hold a UK driving license. Security clearance to SC level is preferable or willingness to obtain it.
