Job description

RINA is seeking an Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Engineer to support growth across various safety-critical multi-industry sectors.

In this role, you'll manage a range of EMC systems assurance projects within a small, dynamic team, delivering services to sectors including Aerospace & Defence, Rail, Oil & Gas, Power, and Infrastructure. This position offers opportunities to develop your technical expertise and project management skills.

Our company operates on a hybrid working model; travel between 25%-50% across the UK and internationally may be required. Our offices are located in Leatherhead, Chippenham, Manchester, and Lincoln, but living within commuting distance is not mandatory.

The role

This client-facing position reports to the EMC Discipline Lead. You will be responsible for producing EMC system assurance studies, managing projects through their full lifecycle, and facilitating solutions including:

  • Developing and delivering EMC project technical submissions such as management plans, control plans, risk analyses, design reviews, assurance files, test plans, and desktop studies;
  • Conducting EM environment site surveys and EMC installation inspections;
  • Gathering EMC requirements, writing proposals, and defining scope of work for large projects;
  • Supporting clients with EMC testing programs, preparing test plans, and witnessing testing as needed (note: this is not solely a Test Engineer role).
The person

This role combines consulting with practical, hands-on work. To succeed, you should be eager to tackle diverse challenging projects across multiple sectors, with high energy and excellent communication skills to engage clients effectively. Your client focus, technical expertise, and results-driven approach will help you meet project objectives. You will apply project management methodologies consistently, adapt well to changing circumstances, and take ownership of your work, delivering quality outcomes.

Qualifications & Experience Required
  • Professional services or consulting background with external client-facing experience;
  • Minimum of five years' experience with electromagnetic principles and EMC systems interactions, including knowledge of relevant standards, legislation, and directives;
  • Experience in delivering EMC management and control plans, and writing technical reports;
  • Knowledge of EMC design guidelines (fixed installations), testing, and risk analysis;
  • Familiarity with desktop analysis techniques such as touch/step potential calculations, induced voltage assessments, RF flammable atmospheres, and EMF/human exposure evaluations;
  • Experience using EMC test equipment like spectrum analyzers and antennas.
