Overview of the role:

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the successful candidate will join a highly dedicated team leading electrical/electronic engineering projects across the business.

The role is within the Group Electrical & Controls team, responsible for ensuring all new JCB product programs and current product maintenance meet technical deliverables on time. The role requires technical knowledge, hands-on experience, understanding of project delivery processes, and the ability to collaborate with diverse teams to ensure successful delivery.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Provide electrical & electronic support for our current product maintenance team.
  • Investigate electrical warranty claims and customer feedback.
  • Translate customer feedback into clear requirements and deliverables.
  • Conduct root cause analysis using methods like 8D, Ishikawa/fishbone diagrams.
  • Perform hands-on investigations at machine level.
  • Devising solutions and overseeing their implementation to production.
  • Select appropriate hardware platforms considering environmental and cost factors.
  • Develop prototypes to validate concepts.
  • Coordinate with third-party vendors for software requirements.
  • Ensure robust ECU communication protocols are followed (SAE J1939, Ethernet).
  • Design vehicle electrical wiring systems as needed, passing designs to the EDS team.
  • Monitor system health via onboard diagnostics or over-the-air communications.
  • Work in line with industry-standard development techniques, e.g., V Model.
  • Promote reuse of components and approaches.
  • Participate in machine validation and verification testing.

About you:

  • Experience with hydraulic and electrical system interaction.
  • PLC panel design and ladder logic experience.
  • Familiarity with requirements capturing tools like IBM DOORS.
  • Knowledge of CAN bus protocols (CANOpen, J1939, ISO14229, ISO14230).
  • Understanding of the electrical systems within the V Model lifecycle.
  • Awareness of security considerations for resilient systems.
  • Experience with verification and validation techniques.
  • Proficiency with electronic lab tools (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, etc.).
  • Ability to interpret complex procedures and sign-off requirements.
  • Strong record-keeping skills for design revisions and updates.
  • Qualified to HNC/HND level in electronics/software disciplines or equivalent experience.
