With plans to see SP Energy Networks (SPEN), part of the ScottishPower Group, look to invest over £5bn in transmission projects across our transmission network in central and southern Scotland by 2030, the Transmission Commercial team will play a key role in supporting SPEN to work at pace to deliver the transmission network that is required to support ambitions Scottish and UK Government 2030 targets.

Reporting to the Overhead Line (OHL) Engineering Group Head and Project Teams, you will be responsible for developing and delivering engineering solutions from feasibility to detailed engineering design for transmission networks projects (132kV, 275kV and 400kV).

You will be responsible for the engineering solutions for projects of high value and complexity within the portfolio whilst supervising and developing less experienced staff within the department. This will include providing the necessary basic and detailed engineering specifications and designs for projects, innovation, effective technical support, advice, coaching and input throughout the lifecycle of a portfolio of projects.

What you'll be doing

1. Responsible for the development of pre-contract designs and delivery of projects by leading the technical aspects of OHL system and all other associated equipment.
2. Perform all duties with professionalism and promote internally/externally, a strong emphasis on health, safety, quality and environmental compliance and continuous improvement.
3. Assess engineering documentation regarding feasibility and compliance in line with client requirements and support the preparation of accurate budgets for new projects. Support construction and outage programmes where required in relation to OHL circuits.
4. Responsible for preparing basic and detailed engineering specifications for OHL system designs and costs for high value, complex or business critical projects.
5. Drive resolution of statutory, land or other consents regarding OHL routes.
6. Responsible for providing technical assessment of tender submissions and reporting recommendations to the project team.
7. Define OHL equipment requirements for input to System Construction Authorisation (SCA), Project Technical Specifications and BETTA documentation.
8. Preparation/Review of OHL drawings and technical specifications for construction, procurement or other stakeholders.
9. Control of correspondence and drawings to be issued to the Project Delivery and Pre-Contract Teams.
10. Ensure specifications, OHL system designs, equipment and construction practices are in accordance with current legislation, policies and operational requirements.
11. Lead the technical resolution of site/construction OHL related issues.
12. Provide support for the technical resolution of site / construction OHL issues, analyse common faults and prevent re-occurrence.
13. Carry out tender assessment of OHL works (including suppliers), support to project management on the assessment of bids.
14. Provide technical support to the Pre-Contract and Project Delivery teams on matters concerning the design, construction, operation and maintenance of OHL systems and other associated equipment.
15. Preparation of project quality documentation following all SP energy network and client quality processes and provide and meet deliverables for PQP's.
16. Drive industry best practice and technological advances within the project team/department. Assist with evaluation and apply new ideas, technical developments, new equipment, new materials and/or alternative-working methods to provide cost savings, efficiencies and improved safety.
17. Contribute to training needs assessment for new products or similar and the development and delivery of technical, operational and safety packages for such products.
18. Manage, supervise or mentor less experienced staff within the Department or Project Team.
19. Liaise across global multi-disciplinary engineering teams to provide end to end integrated solution.

What you'll bring

1. Degree qualified in Engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
2. Working towards membership of a professional institution.
3. Proven significant experience and knowledge in a responsible position in the area of transmission network overhead line and associated equipment engineering.
4. Good inter-personal and communication skills and the ability to form effective working relationships with other individuals, departments and businesses.
5. Ability to implement, apply and promote CDM and Health & Safety best practice in a design environment.
6. Ability to represent departments or project teams regarding OHL engineering issues, decisions, standards or industry best practice.

Minimum Requirements:

1. Engineering degree or HND/HNC with 5 years equivalent experience
2. Proven significant experience in delivering engineering solutions and designs for high value and complex transmission OHL projects.
3. Communicate with and influence senior managers.
4. Writing clear and concise reports and documents covering technical subjects
