Job summary

Amey is seeking a Senior Structural / Bridge Engineer in Newcastle to join the Consulting Structures team. You will lead bridges projects from quotation to handover, mentor junior staff and drive safe, high-quality deliverables within a multidisciplinary environment.

Located in Newcastle, the role offers hybrid working patterns and a range of benefits. A relevant degree and Chartered status are highly regarded, with experience in Midas, LUSAS, and Autodesk Structural Bridge Design valued.

Qualifications

• Experience in bridges or civil structures and sound structural engineering principles.
• Bachelors or Masters in a relevant subject; Chartered status or equivalent is desirable.
• Ability to oversee deliverables and contribute to design checks and documentation.
• Familiarity with software tools such as Midas, LUSAS and ASBD.
• Strong collaboration within a multidisciplinary team and good commercial awareness.
• Experience in managing HS&W risks and client liaison.

• Own bridges and civil structures projects from quotation to handover, including design development and calculations.
• Prepare and check designs, calculations, drawings and scheme deliverables.
• Oversee junior staff and contribute to their professional development.

• Liaise with client and supplier representatives; attend progress meetings.
• Manage a small, locally based technical team and ensure on-time delivery.

The role

Responsibilities

As a Senior Structural Engineer, you will provide effective support and assistance to the Practice Lead on a variety of bridges and civil structures schemes, whilst taking the lead on projects and mentoring engineers and technicians. Responsibilities include:

• Leading a team, producing technically sound engineering solutions.
• Taking ownership and leading bridges and civil structures projects from start to finish, from preparing the quotation all the way to handover, including:
  • Design development
  • Structural assessments
  • Principal Inspections / Special Inspections
  • Feasibility and other technical reports
• Preparation and checking of designs, calculations, drawings and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy the criteria of quality, cost and programme.
• Overseeing the actions of more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks and taking responsibility for their actions.
• Contributing to the professional development of junior staff.
• Liaising with Client and supplier representatives at peer level, attending progress meetings, and responding to queries.
• Managing a small, locally based single discipline technical team and taking responsibility for delivery of their workload.
• Contributing to the preparation of bids and general work winning function.
• Drive effective Health and Safety practices within the team.

We Want To Hear From You If You Have

• Experience and expertise in bridges and / or civil structures, gained in an Engineer role or equivalent.
• Sound understanding of structural engineering principles.
• Ability to produce or oversee the production of technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and Client's requirements.
• Ownership for the preparation and checking of deliverables
• Knowledge of relevant software and similar analytical tools (eg Midas, LUSAS, Autodesk Structural Bridge Design).
• Good commercial awareness.
• Experience in effectively managing HS&W risks.
• Collaborative, proactive approach to problem solving with experience in a multi-disciplinary team
• Incorporated/Chartered status or an equivalent professional licence
• Bachelors or Masters degree in a relevant subject or equivalent further learning.
