Job summary

Amey is seeking a Senior Engineer (Bridges) to join the Consulting Structures Team in Manchester/Sheffield/York and a new office in Newcastle. You will lead a multi-regional bridges team, deliver designs and deliverables, and oversee junior staff across projects for UK clients.

You will apply Chartered or equivalent credentials where required, and contribute to bids, risk assessments and health & safety practices while advancing career development within the team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in an appropriate subject.
• Experience in the Structures field delivering technically sound engineering solutions.
• Chartered status with the ICE or IStructE is desirable or essential on certain contracts.

Responsibilities

• Leading a team, producing technically sound engineering solutions.
• Taking ownership and leading projects from start to finish, from quotation to handover.
• Preparation and checking of designs, calculations, drawings and documentation.
• Overseeing junior staff and acting as a Delegated Engineer.
• Contributing to the professional development of junior staff.
• Liaising with client and supplier representatives and attending progress meetings.
• Managing a small, locally based team and delivering their workload.
• Contributing to bids and general work-winning activities.
• Drive effective Health and Safety practices within the team.

The Opportunity

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Senior Engineer (Bridges) to join our award winning and growing Consulting Structures Team in Manchester/Sheffield/York and new office in Newcastle. We welcome applications from Structural Engineers across all these regions.

Our Amey Consulting Structures Team are involved in designing some of the largest civil engineering and associated infrastructure projects across UK.

Amey delivers a range of local, national and international infrastructure projects for clients including Transport Scotland, Network Rail, National Highways, Local Authorities and Contractors. We have secured multiple long-term contracts and continue to grow and expand into new regions and markets.

Responsibilities

• Leading a team, producing technically sound engineering solutions.
• Taking ownership and leading projects from start to finish, from preparing the quotation all the way to handover.
• Preparation and checking of designs, calculations, drawings and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy the criteria of quality, cost, and programme.
• Overseeing the actions of more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks and taking responsibility for their actions.
• Contributing to the professional development of junior staff and acting as a Delegated Engineer.
• Liaising with Client and supplier representatives at peer level, attending progress meetings, and responding to queries.
• Managing a small, locally based, single-discipline technical team and taking responsibility for the delivery of their workload.
• Contributing to the preparation of bids and the general work-winning function.
• Drive effective Health and Safety practices within the team.

What You Will Bring To Us

• Developed experience and expertise within the Structures field, probably gained in an Engineer role or equivalent.
• An ability to produce or oversee the production of technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and the Client’s requirements.
• Takes ownership for the preparation and checking of deliverables and can check deliverables to a reasonable standard.
• Very good working knowledge of relevant software and similar analytical tools (e.g LUSAS, Autodesk Structural Bridge Design).
• Demonstrates good commercial awareness.
• Has a good understanding of CDM and risk assessment.
• Substantially experienced in the management and communication of hazards and risks on projects and ensures appropriate risk mitigation and transference has been applied.
• Demonstrates a good understanding of interface management, and ensures own deliverables align with deliverables produced by other disciplines.
• Incorporated or Chartered status with the ICE or IStructE. or an equivalent professional licence gained through the professional institution to which the individual is aligned is desirable and may be essential on particular contracts.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in an appropriate subject or demonstrable equivalent further learning.
