The Opportunity:We are currently seeking a
Rail Engineer to work within a multidisciplinary team (in North; based in any of, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Newcastle and Belfast/York, Manchester, Leeds) delivering a portfolio of exciting, varied rail projects as part of an established and successful Rail Business across the UK, Europe and
North America.You will be part of a team responsible for successfully delivering our design commissions for our significant clients, including Network Rail, contractors and other agencies such as Train Operators, Councils, Passenger Transport Executives and government agencies.
Current multidisciplinary projects include; Station design and masterplanning, Transpennine Route Upgrade, Depot remodelling, Electrification and associated decarbonisation projects. Signalling renewals and numerous GRIP Stage 1-8 commissions for Network Rail and National Transport Bodies.Is this role for you?We are looking for a Multi disciplined rail engineer with relevant experience to be an integral part of our UK Rail team. With a motivation to tackle interesting problems, finding innovative and sustainable solutions and deliver meaningful work with successful client outcomes.
Ensuring the successful management and delivery of technically excellent multidisciplinary rail projects and bids across our UK Rail portfolio, you will be responsible for, and typical activities will include:
- Engineering and design activities and technical interfaces for the successful delivery of multidisciplinary projects.
- Creating and maintaining a broad spectrum of collaborative relationships, inspiring confidence and trust with our teams and Clients.
- Sharing and seeking knowledge, best practice and innovation across our business, providing guidance, training and feedback with other related disciplines and skills, locally and across the UK.
- Develop ES2 and ES3 Feasibility Reports, supporting timely approvals and alignment with PACE stage deliverables
- The successful delivery of the project to agreed targets, e.g., programme, budget, and quality.
- Facilitating communication, co-ordination and information flow with the Client and within the project team
You will have the freedom to work independently, managing your personal development utilising our in house and external training opportunities.
The position offers scope for personal skill development, especially concerning increasing multidisciplinary engineering design management experience. The focus will be on developing engineering design management skills and the collaborative integration of multidisciplinary designs in a stimulating and challenging project environment.
To achieve in this role, you will have...- Competency and a proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and deliver enhancements, feasibility studies, and assurance across major projects. Strong background in asset protection, depot upgrades, and regulatory compliance.
- Prior experience acting as a multi disciplined rail engineer, competent in requirements management, change management and delivery to programme.
- Chartered Engineer (or working towards) or equivalent with demonstrable experience managing design, build and/or operate commissions on large infrastructure projects.
- Self-motivated and able to work both independently and within a larger multi-discipline team.
- Familiar with BIM and has an understanding of 3D modelling tools for design and coordination purposes and the associated Information attributes that can be assigned and managed within the Model.
- A supportive and encouraging approach to mentoring less experienced members of the team.
- Be available to travel across the UK and work away from home on client sites if required.
Qualifications- An appropriate university degree or equivalent qualification.
- Ideally chartership membership of the ICE, or similar
