Job summary

A leading construction firm in the UK is seeking a Senior Engineer to manage the engineering function on various infrastructure projects. This role involves engineering leadership, ensuring quality control, and managing lifting operations. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in engineering, experience with quality management procedures, and a Chartered Engineering accreditation. Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Manage engineering function and provide engineering leadership.
  • Ensure team completes as-built surveys.
  • Control Sisk Non-Conformance procedures.
  • Maintain daily diary for the project.
  • Review and create Inspection & Test Plans for key packages (concrete, drainage, steelwork, brickwork).
  • Understand tolerances for vertical and horizontal structural elements per project specs.
  • Manage Non-Conformance procedure and close NCRs.
  • Review method statements and risk assessments.
  • Identify missing information and manage the RFI process.
  • Undertake Temporary Works Co-ordinator role when appointed and implement procedures.
  • Undertake Project Lifting Operations Appointed Person role when appointed.

Job description

Overview

Senior Engineer will be based on one of our UK Infrastructure projects. Manages the engineering function as the senior representative, coordinates with the line manager and provides Engineering Leadership for their respective project(s). Sets the strategy for Engineering, setting out and onsite control, along with the Engineer/Assistant Engineer and subordinates/supply chain. Is the primary point of reference for QA, record keeping and production ensuring the establishment and maintenance of the Sisk Quality procedures and requirements. Also takes responsibility for Temporary Works Control/Co‑ordination and where required actively manages lifting operations.

Responsibilities
  • Competent and demonstrates advanced awareness in the best forms of dimensional control and is comfortable in rotating global grids into local grid format
  • Ensures that site and graduate engineers take responsibility for the management of survey equipment
  • Ensures that the engineering team completes as-built surveys for key elements. Understands key tolerances and can analyse details across a number of interfaces to highlight potential problems
  • Completes an individual daily diary
  • Competent in the principles of quality control for the majority of packages. Can review and create Inspection & Test Plans. Can readily display advanced knowledge of key packages such as concrete, drainage, steelwork and brickwork
  • Has a good awareness of the project specifications, in particular tolerances for vertical and horizontal structural elements
  • Controls the components of the SISK Non Conformance procedure. Is comfortable in creating and closing out Non‑Conformances. Understands the cost of defects and remedial works. Works actively to close out NCR’s in a timely manner
  • Can review and create method statements and risk assessments
  • Identifies where information is missing and has an excellent working knowledge of the project RFI process
  • Undertakes the role of the Temporary Works Co-ordinator (When appointed) and ensures the Sisk Temporary Works procedures are implemented for both direct and sub contracted works
  • Undertakes the role of Project Lifting Operations Appointed Person (When appointed)
Experience
  • Can assess temporary works systems for their suitability. Understands any limitations where necessary
  • Experience in the management of lifting operations; with support, can undertake the role of Lifting Operations Appointed Person
  • Experienced in Quality Management procedures
  • Good working knowledge of AUTOCAD
  • Understands current H&S legislation
  • Working Knowledge of BIM, with the ability to input 3D scanning, or point cloud survey information
  • Can demonstrate where they have instigated change to improve project performance
  • Ability to advise and assess construction outputs
  • Able to complete health and safety inspections, providing assistance, support and active management of graduate and site engineers
