Job Description

Job Title: Senior Engineer

Location: Swindon

Salary: £51,000 - £57,000 + car / allowance

Contract Type: Fulltime, Permanent

This role forms part of a large-scale infrastructure programme supporting Network Rail's £2bn Wales and Western region works. Covering the Western Geotechnical Off-Track and Drainage package, the scope spans from London Paddington to Penzance and focuses on the ongoing maintenance and renewal of key civil engineering assets.

We are currently seeking a Senior Engineer with strong rail experience to join the team in Swindon and oversee the delivery of multiple schemes across the region.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Delegate tasks to Site Engineers and supervise their execution
  2. Ensure Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) and Quality Check Sheets are completed promptly
  3. Share knowledge and keep site teams informed of relevant updates
  4. Develop or approve construction procedures specific to project needs
  5. Assess and manage plant and resource requirements with the Section Foreman
  6. Produce and review method statements and risk assessments
  7. Supervise temporary works activities and ensure compliance
  8. Conduct site checks, liaise with Temporary Works Coordinators (TWCs)
  9. Prepare and issue Temporary Works Briefs
  10. Oversee setting out and ensure alignment with design requirements
  11. Mark up design drawings to reflect as-built conditions
  12. Coordinate with fellow Senior Engineers to manage site interfaces and avoid conflicts
Requirements:
  • Proven experience working in the rail sector (essential)
  • Network Rail project experience
  • Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent
  • SMSTS qualification
  • Familiarity with the Western Rail Route (desirable)
