Senior Engineer

We are looking for a senior software engineer for our product engineering team. Join the Apply team within our Loans Engineering Group and be a key player in developing the innovative platform that gives customers access to Funding Circle’s industry-leading term loans.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll lead the evolution of our systems and directly contribute to strategic decisions to ensure their continued performance. You’ll have the opportunity to further develop your leadership and technical skills in a culture that champions innovation, collaborative teamwork, and collective achievements.

Who are we?

We’re Funding Circle. We back small businesses to succeed.

At Funding Circle, we believe the world needs small businesses. That’s why we’ve made it our mission to help them get the finance they need to grow.

With more than a decade of expertise under our belt, we’ve built a game-changing platform with cutting-edge data and technology that’s reshaping SME lending. Say goodbye to lengthy applications and hello to lightning-fast decisions! In just minutes, SMEs across the UK can get a decision, giving them access to competitive funding in a flash.

We know that good business is about good people. So we pride ourselves on providing meaningful, human support as well as fast, hassle-free processes to deliver an unbeatable customer experience.

The role
  • You have an interest or experience in microservices and/or event-driven architecture
  • You love working in a complex problem domain where you can have a real and substantial impact on the business
  • You are a collaborator - you encourage pairing and believe that working together is smarter than working in a silo.
  • You are a teacher, generous with your time and expertise, to teach stakeholders and fellow engineers how to answer their own questions
  • You are a problem-solver. You identify and confidently mitigate risks, issues, or control weaknesses that arise in your day-to-day work.
What we’re looking for
  • Experience working with Ruby, including knowledge of common libraries, frameworks, and best practices
  • Deep understanding of fundamental programming skills (data structures, algorithms), and an ability to apply them to complex problems
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken, with the ability to clearly articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • An interest (or experience) in Distributed Systems or Event-Driven Architectures (using Apache Kafka).
  • Proven track record of designing and implementing software architecture for complex applications, including considerations for scalability, maintainability, and security.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and deployment strategies, and a commitment to continuous improvement and automation.

At Funding Circle, we are committed to building diverse teams. Please apply even if your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with the requirements.

Why join us?

At Funding Circle, we celebrate and support the differences that make you, you. We’re proud to be an equal-opportunity workplace and affirmative-action employer. We truly believe that diversity makes us better.

As a flexible-first employer, we offer hybrid working at Funding Circle, with teams expected to be in our London office three times a week, where you can enjoy our refurbished hybrid workspace, barista-made coffee, and subsidised lunches.

We support our employees' careers and well-being through various benefits, including health, wealth, development, and lifestyle programs, as well as parental leave policies.
