Job summary

Unite People in Leeds is seeking a Senior Engineer to lead the engineering function across a portfolio of regional building projects. This permanent role delivers projects from £1m to £15m, with potential for career progression and development of junior engineers.

You will own all engineering activities on your projects, provide technical leadership, and mentor the wider engineering team, while ensuring robust QA and safe, efficient delivery.

Senior Engineer

Location: Leeds (Projects across the region)

An established regional building contractor is seeking an experienced Senior Engineer to lead the engineering function across a portfolio of building projects throughout Yorkshire.

Delivering projects ranging from £1m to £15m, the business has built an outstanding reputation through quality, repeat business and long-term client partnerships across commercial, industrial, education, healthcare, leisure and public sector developments.

This position offers far more than a traditional Senior Engineer role. Alongside leading engineering activities on site, you'll play a key part in developing junior engineers, improving engineering standards and helping shape best practice across the business.

The Role

Reporting into the Project Manager, you'll take ownership of all engineering activities on your projects whilst providing technical leadership and mentoring to the wider engineering team.

Responsibilities

• Managing all engineering activities throughout project delivery.
• Leading setting out, surveying and technical coordination.
• Reviewing and checking setting out completed by junior engineers.
• Overseeing QA processes and ensuring robust quality standards.
• Producing and reviewing as-built information.
• Mentoring, coaching and developing Site Engineers.
• Supporting the planning and sequencing of construction activities.
• Working closely with Project Managers and Contracts Managers.
• Coordinating with subcontractors, consultants and client representatives.
• Identifying technical risks and implementing practical solutions.
• Driving engineering best practice across multiple projects where required.

Requirements

• Proven experience working as a Senior Engineer or experienced Site Engineer within a building contractor.
• Strong background delivering construction projects valued up to £15m.
• Excellent setting out and surveying capability.
• Extensive QA and technical documentation experience.
• Previous experience mentoring or developing junior engineers.
• Strong communication and leadership skills.
• Full UK Driving Licence.
