Job summary

RTL Group Ltd is seeking a Senior Engineer to lead site engineering on a Rochdale project. You will oversee setting out, QA, and liaison with PMs, subcontractors and design teams to ensure high-quality, on-time delivery of groundworks and external works.

You will mentor junior engineers, maintain accurate records, and promote safety and environmental standards across the project team.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as Senior Engineer or capable Site Engineer stepping into a senior role.
• Strong background in groundworks, drainage, foundations, highways and external works.
• CSCS Card, full UK driving licence and right to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the site engineering function across multiple fronts.
• Oversee all setting out activities using Total Station and GPS equipment.
• Review drawings/technical information and resolve engineering issues.
• Mentor site engineers and junior staff, ensuring QA compliance.
• Maintain site records, QA docs and as-built information.
• Ensure works meet scope, safety, quality and programme requirements.
• Liaise with PM, clients, subcontractors and design teams for smooth delivery.
• Support planning and sequencing to improve site efficiency.

Job description

I am working in partnership with a leading groundworks and civil engineering contractor who due to continued growth and the award of several major contracts, is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Engineer to join their team in Rochdale.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated engineering professional with a strong background in groundworks and civil engineering looking to take ownership of site engineering activities while supporting the successful delivery of complex schemes.

The Role

As Senior Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing all engineering activities on site, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. You will work closely with the Project Manager, Site Managers, and subcontractors, providing technical guidance and ensuring projects are delivered in line with programme and specification.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the site engineering function across multiple work fronts.
• Oversee all setting out activities using Total Station and GPS equipment.
• Ensure the accurate delivery of groundworks, drainage, foundations, roads, and external works.
• Review drawings and technical information, identifying and resolving engineering issues proactively.
• Mentor and support Site Engineers and junior engineering staff where required.
• Ensure works are carried out in accordance with approved methodologies, specifications, and quality standards.
• Maintain accurate site records, QA documentation, and as-built information.
• Promote and enforce the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance.
• Liaise effectively with the project management team, clients, subcontractors, and design teams to ensure smooth project delivery.
• Monitor progress against programme and contribute to efficient planning and sequencing of works.

Requirements

• Proven experience working as a Senior Engineer or an experienced Site Engineer ready to step into a senior role.
• Strong background delivering groundworks, drainage, foundations, highways, and external works packages.
• Proficient in setting out using Total Station and associated surveying equipment.
• Excellent understanding of QA processes, technical specifications, and engineering documentation.
• Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• CSCS Card.
• Full UK Driving Licence.
• Right to work in the UK.
